Okay, programming my garage door opener through Home Link has never been easy for me, but I have never failed in getting it to finally work. Not so in my 2022 HTC. I have followed the directions to the letter. I have not only tried the method of holding the present remote close to the Home Link button, but have also done the "learn" button on the opener. Nothing seems to be working. Am I doomed to carrying the manufacturer's opener in the car, or is there some sort of a "trick" to all this?
If you have had your opener for a while, you may need to reset it. There are a limited number of remotes that each opener can be linked to. I can't remember what the number is for genie, but I think it was somewhere between 8 and 10.
1st you have to program the handheld opener to the car 1st. I would start with clearing the memory in the cars Homelink GDO, you do that by holding the 2 outside buttons down until the light flashes fast. It is a decent amount of time. Then once you have the memory cleared you can start the programming process.
To program, hold the opener under the homelink panel or where ever the manual says to place it. Then press and hold the Homelink button and at the same time the hand held openers button you are wanting to learn. Do this until the home link goes from a slow flash to a fast flash. You have now programmed the handheld remote to the cars Homelink GDO, but that is only half of the process. Now you have to program the car to your GRO in the garage. Now find the learn button on your overhead GDO. Press the learn button on the car, you usually have 30 seconds to press the button on the other device before the GDO exits programming mode. Once you press the learn button on the GDO in the garage press the button you just programmed on the Homelink GDO in the car. The OH light on the garage GDO will usually blink once to acknowledge it has accepted the programming.
That should be it. The only car we have ever had issues programming the Homelink on is our 19 Audi, the Lane Avoidance system causes interference with the Homelinke GDO during the programming process so there are some extra steps you have to do during the programming process.
@LIE2ME I remember mine was a PITA too. I ended up doing it several times to get the timing just right (learn didn't work for me either) but in the end thru trial and repetition and following the instructions to the T I got it programmed. I forget in the end what was the magic thing I did that made it take, but I remember it being a facepalm kinda thing like "duh". I might have sacrificed a chicken and recited the catachisms to Cthulu. Or maybe I held the button a little too long. Something like that.
I hope I don't have to do that again. I freaking hate programming car garage remotes. It always sucks. Hang in there.
I feel for you, it sucked donkey *****.

Unfortunately it never did work. Nothing has worked. When I would press and hold the Homelink button at the same time the hand held opener's button, and then wait for the home link to go from a slow flash to a fast flash, it would not flash at all. I know the hand held opener works. I use it every day. I even put a new battery in for good measure. To test my theory, I tried with the opener on my other garage door, which happens to be a different brand. Still no Homelink light. Bother openers have been programmed to previous GM Homelink equipped vehicles, and I have been sure to clear the codes on the C8 every time I have tried something new. I have looked on every Homelink thread on every brand of car out there. I have read (and tried) hundred of "sure fire" fixes, and nothing. I wonder if the local car dealer would send someone to my house to set this up, or am I just SOL? Other than this stupid Homelink problem, my C8 has been the most amazing car I have ever owned. This one little issue is driving me nuts...
Have you reset your Homelink system to ensure it's starting fresh? To do this, you press & hold the 2 outer buttons for something like 10 seconds. This will clear all stored memory allowing you to begin the process from scratch. Sometimes that's been the magic bullet for me when programming them in other cars. Homelink is so hit or miss; one day its easy as can be to program, then you jump in another car and you're banging your head against the [garage] door for an hour to get it setup.
My previous house had 3 separate openers for 3 doors, and I programmed them all into each of the 3 cars. I'm pretty sure that day is the closest I've come to having my wife divorce me

I had to search for this thread as mine didn't go according to manual, but following these directions worked for me. Thanks!
Any luck yet Keith?
This would really **** me off too if it didn't work.

Steve,
I finally had success. The remote I was trying to program off, was a generic "universal" garage remote. I ordered a new OEM remote directly from the company that made the garage door opener, programmed the new remote to the opener, then programmed the car to the new remote, and "shazaam", Home Link works and everything is peachy. That was frustrating as hell, but all is now good...

So, how's the new ride?
Glad you got it straightened out.
Been crazy busy lately and not happy about it.
Still less than 500 miles so far.
Just finished full detail/ceramic with pics and info coming soon.
Back to monsoon here in Mass.
Hope things are going well for you.
