Default HTC alignment question for the group

Today I brought my HTC in to have the dealer adjust the hardtop. At the end of the closing sequence the passenger side hits the windshield head liner first with the drivers side following two and one half inches later. I measured the difference. As a result of this difference the passenger side locating pin (the pin attached to the front edge of the top) hits the left side of the mating hole in the headliner, making a banging noise, pulling the top ever so slightly to the passenger side as it centers in the hole, followed by the drivers side pin going into its mounting hole. The top fully closes, the latching mechanisms fully engage and the top snugs down to the windshield headliner with no gaps or other issues. The dealer evaluated this for a day and says this is within the tolerance of the normal operational mode for the hard top. I find this hard to believe. I would like to know if others on this forum who have HTCs experience small misalignments in the top when it is closing. I could probably post a video of this if needed.

Thanks

I don't think two and one half inches or a banging sound can be normal. I would find another dealer and get a second opinion. I can only speak for my own HTC, but it closes in synch on both sides and with no noise.

Mine is even, straight and without clunking or shifting. I could not tolerate what you are describing (crookedness).

Sorry about all the morning sunshine and reflections.

Can you provide a photo showing the gap? I find it hard to believe they consider this normal as described.

RandelB photo is a great shot of what good looks like. Show that to your service provider!

Any banging sound is definitely not right. Mine closes evenly on both sides, and just quietly latches every time.

Thanks for the feedback. I think I am just dealing with an incompetent dealer service. Supposedly the service manager was brought in to take a look and declared it normal. End of story for me. They gave me the car back and said go away.

Then by all means, go away - from that dealer. Find another that knows Corvettes even if you have to drive a ways.

Mine closes perfectly. Sounds like a typical dealer blow off to me. It should be adjusted.

Sounds like they just don't want to deal with it. Agree with the suggestion to find another dealer.

Mine is at the dealer right now for this. I thought the clunking sound was normal. I started to get a leak and the dealer told me the roof isn’t properly aligned, and showed me how the cloth around the latch had been torn by the roof not closing properly. It was supposed to be a 1 day fix…then I was told 2 days, then possibly 4 days. Not sure if they have to take the roof apart to adjust it 🤷🏻
