Instructions, Soler Throttle Body Installation on C8 HTC
Hello, Folks.
Many of you have asked us (Soler Performance) about how to install one of our Modified/Ported/Custom Throttle Bodies on your C8 HTC. We have not actually done it here in the shop, but these instructions should take you there. We suppose some of you here must have already done it, please fill in the gaps as you see fit. Appreciate any tips and tricks.
These instructions should also help if adding a cold air intake (CAI), and even a ported manifold, along with your Soler Modified Throttle Body.
Hey Mike.... Just a bit of an addendum to these instructions: I ended up removing the trunklid so that I could just leave the nacelle lid/folding stowage compartment lid open. For this to work, you need to remove the catch pin from the trunk lid and insert into the latch so that the car thinks the trunk is closed. Once you raise the Nacelle lid or whatever you want to call that lid, then you can disconnect your battery and continue on as detailed above.
Hey Guys,'
Just installed my Soler Performance TB in my HTC. I didn't even know that HTC instructions were available. However, I did manage. With the battery still connected, I did all my trunk work first, but only removed the side couplers on the Air Box and two screws at the bottom of air box. Leaving ALL wiring connected, Then close trunk, open engine bay, then pop your hood and disconnect your battery. Now with paint protection covers on sides on engine bay and a small ladder I kneeled on the top engine braces and finished job. With trunk portion already prepped, after loosening the TB rubber coupler, I just slid air box back towards the trunk a few inches then performed install. Tricky part was torqueing them down, due to limited space. Then reverse directions.
I literally just installed it. However, due to heavy rain, I have not had opportunity to test.
Conditions for this kind of install;
1. I am only 185lbs 5'9 and pretty flexible. (This install method may not work for everyone)
2. Have numerous tools at your disposal (U-joints, magnet grappers for when you drop a screw, etc)
3. UNDERSTAND what you are kneeling on, pushing-on, and pulling-on if you are performing this way.
4. Took about two hours from start to finish
I just did mine yesterday and I didn't have these instructions. I agree with only moving the airbox back far enough to release from the Throttle Body. No need to pull it all the way out.
I did not disconnect the battery and ended up getting a check engine light (CEL) which eventually cleared but the radiator cooling fan behind the drivers side of the car was running at full speed, like the computer thought we were very hot.
I called Soler and spoke to Luis who recommended I disconnect the battery. I did disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and reconnected. Everything worked fine after that.
The claim of HP gains are very hard to measure or feel, it's only a small amount on an engine already at 495 HP. However, I purchased it for my C7 before and my C8 now becuase I feel the acceleration is smoother. It just feels better off the line to me. The difference was more noticible in my C7 Grand Sport and more less so on the C8. I think the C8 transmission is much better than the automatic in my C7 and maybe that is why the C8 was already smoother than the C7.
Bottom line, this is all seat of my pants feeling. I like it.
I will add this, installing a new throttle body on a C7 took just minutes. On the C8, it's a project. I worked on it for about 4 hours. Now that I have done it, I could probably do it in 60-90 minutes.
Just a tip from someone who's done multiple Gen6, C7 & C8 ported throttle body swaps... The C8 is unlike the Gen6/C7 LT1 (obviously), but C8 is actually easier than the C7 to swap the IM/TB combo! Unless you're installing an intake at the same time, its easiest to pull the intake manifold out with the throttle body as one unit on the C8. I have it down to well under an hour for install of a Soler throttle controller, ported intake manifold, and ported throttle body. Even if you're retaining your stock intake manifold, this is still by far the quickest/easiest way to complete the throttle body swap. You'll then reinstall the IM/TB as one unit too.
Leave the drivers door open during the install process to put the computers to sleep and you won't have any CEL issues. I suggest the use of Loctite Blue on the throttle body and intake manifold bolts.
I have a HTC and was able to install the TB without moving the Air Intake box. But it was a PITB and super tight. Also I believe it could be down by just loosening the bolts to the airbox in order to give you that needed space.
My new Soler TB is on the way, I also ordered a new TB and sent it out to Reuben at socal porting. I should have everything back by next week. I do have a complete K&N intake as well as a catback so this all should be a nice addition.
Just yank your stock TB off the car and use a USPS Priority Med. box and send out. Once they got it, I had a return tracking label. They received on Mon and I am expecting it back today. My intakes are still with Socal Porting so it doesnt matter but at least part of my puzzle is completed. LOL
