RPM vs MPH By Gear
This is 120 miles of race data with the accelerator to the floor most of the time averaging about 145 mph.
The first plot shows the recorded engine RPM's vs MPH in gears 4 through 8. I am in auto with a Z mode that is closest to sport.
The fact that the traces are not a nice straight line is unexpected. The PDR recording must have caught the transmission during a shift.
The second picture is a summary of the ratio of trendline slope for each gear. The RPM vs MPH slope for 4th gear for has been set as the baseline. So, it has a value of 1.
The relative slope of each gear is a rough approximation of the effective high speed gear ratio of each of the gears.
The third plot shows the gear choice the auto made through one leg of the race. Running 165 + mph the transmission chose sixth gear most of the time running about 5400 rpm.
