I have owned much every paddle type system (SMG, Egear, F!, Cambria Corsa and different DCT's in dozens of cars), and they all have a learning curve. With some shifts are better if you pull pack on the throttle, others when you put in more throttle. It also varies depending on what gear you are in. The C8 shifts a lot like the 458 (at least until I had the open flash tune installed) and I have found that it seems to shift best from first to second either at high RPM's or very low RPM's, along with a little feathering of the throttle. These units are supposed to learn your driving style (I have yet to actually see that in any of them), but your issue is not unique to your car or to the C8..

If I'm in manual mode, I'm typically shifting a little higher rpm (probably at least 3500-4000), so I haven't really noticed what you've described. So far, I've been 100% satisfied with the DCT in manual mode.

I just picked up my car on Friday, and my salesperson told me I must be in Manual mode to use the paddle shifters. Is that true? I have always been able to downshift with paddle shifters in previous cars (Audi and others) without switching to a Manual mode.

I was going to start searching the YouTube videos, but saw this thread.....

Love my car, so much to learn!

Absolutely not true, you can use the paddles in "drive", but they will revert to automatic mode after a few seconds if the car isn't under heavy load. I use them frequently in automatic mode if I want to pass someone, downshift for a corner, etc.

You would like they would educate salespeople better. Every DCT I have ever owned (and it has been quite a few) allows you to use the paddles when in Auto mode. I rarely use Auto mode but just be careful sometimes the systems do lag, and you might bounce of the rev limiter (especially since redline comes up quick in these cars) if that happens.

Well, sort of. If you are in D, and use one of the paddles, it will enter in to what is called "temporary manual mode". And yes, it will exit temporary manual mode automatically after a few seconds of not using the paddle. There is more detail about getting into and out of temporary manual mode, and what to expect while in temporary manual mode - in your owners manual. What happens if you hold the upshift or downshift paddle for more than a second or so - and so on. If you put the selector in M, then it stays in the "manual mode". Even then there are some automatic features. If you go too slow for the gear selected it will automatically downshift. If you go to fast, it will not automatically up shift, but you will get to the rev limiter. There is a lot more in the manual.

When your in mm will it shift when on the limiter? My C6 won’t and I had to learn to shift earlier because of the lag in the system. Gave me a few thrills when I first bought it.

No, it will not shift up until you tell it to. The C8 DCT is nothing like the automatics in the C6/7, it is lightning-fast and immediate on shifts.

Thanks Evan I wasn’t very clear. I understand the differences but let me try this again. If you are on the limiter first and hit the paddle in mm will it shift? My car won’t and that’s what scared the crap out of me the time or two it happened I thought I broke it. I am really looking forward to those fast shifts because I drive in mm all the time and shift just like I used to in 3 peddle cars.

Yes, if you're on the limiter and hit the paddle, it will upshift. I've done it a few times now, it's almost a non-event since as soon as you realize you're on the limiter you grab the paddle and you're immediately in the next gear. No need to lift your foot, just grab the next gear and keep accelerating.

ya its not a torque converter , it is a dual clutch
I used to be manual-only for my fun cars but the DCT in this car (and the 2020 GT500 I drove) is what really makes the C8 feel next generation, IMO of course.
