Default Front Camera Display - Picture

Hi Corvette Family,

I got my C8 back from the body shop after it suffered frontend damage. The bumper was replaced, but the shop was saying non of the cameras were touched, so I'm assuming they were able to use the existing ones again. With that said, I picked up the car, drove to my work complex, and parked...and the front camera picture (top view per the photos below) looked very "off/wrong" to me. I don't recall the two images blending into each other like that. I know it's a chevy and not perfect, but I swear objects in the front looked pretty seamless. Anyways, I dropped my car off at a nearby chevy dealership and the body shop owner went over to check out the issue with the service manager. They both said they've compared to 2 or 3 other C8s and everything looked normal. I feel like I'm going crazy...I haven't had my car for almost 3 weeks, so I wanted to see if these look fine/normal/right within this community. Any input would be very helpful!

Nope. They need to align the front cameras.

Can you post a photo of "correct" view so the OP has something to show the people who are telling them it's correct as is?

There are alignment procedures in the Service Manual for that. Your's needs that. Its called Video Processing Control Module Calibration in the version of the Service Manual that I have.

It says "The calibration procedure is needed to have the Video Processing Control Module learn new cameras and their positions. The calibration is
performed automatically by the Video Processing Control Module.'

There are scan tool features associated with that according to that manual. Ask them to review the procedures for that. I have looked at them, and I don't think they are necessarily clear - they may need to consult GM for help if they can figure it out. But it can be corrected.

I have the same issue, but slightly less "Cross-Eyed" after having the front bumper removed, painted and replaced. Before the repair, the alignment was perfect. I use the front camera every time I park in the garage, so I recall what it DID look like. I've decided to put up with the error, since I thought they would have to get in there physically and adjust a camera or two. If it is an electronic adjustment, I might just pursue it with the stealership. Dave, you are not mistaken. The images you have displayed here are not correct.

@Andybump You referenced a procedure title. Is there any numerical reference to the procedure you are referencing?

Not in the version I have. The on-line version that techs have has hyperlinks. They can start with a code and it takes them to the procedure - which then will take them to sub procedures as necessary. I'm not quite sure how they find procedures without a DTC. I find them by searching the document - then finding the actual names of procedures and searching for those names. The description of the camera system seems, in part, generic, because it refers to cameras that the C8 does not have. They may have cleaned that up in later versions. But the schematics, and illustration for replacement are definitely specific to the C8. The car does have a video processing module, and it does have two curbview cameras that are merged to a single image by that module. And I am 99.9% sure there is a calibration procedure for that. I was hoping to find a call to the calibration procedure from the replacement procedure for the curbview cameras, but I did not. Here are some clips:

If the body shop manager said the image looks fine, i would suggest really going over any work they did, because if that is within the realm of acceptable, who knows what he deems acceptable to body work.
