Does anyone know how to remove the cover on the Drive Mode wheel? I've wondered what it looks like without it. Reaching around it to switch modes would be easier as well.

It is called "Front Floor Console Auxiliary Armrest". Its held in place by 4 bolts that are accessed from underneath of the console. You only need to take about 1/2 the car interior apart to get to it.

Geez, that's a lot of disassembly just to remove the console. I don't understand why pieces to the left of the steering wheel need to come off. Almost seems like GM found the most complicated way to put it together to discourage people from taking it apart.

But I realize the real answer is that GM designs it to be the quickest way to assemble, and to Hell with ever repairing anything later. That's not their problem. And every other manufacturer is the same.
