Default C8.R Question

How many of you guys have a C8.R? What's the difference to a base C8?
Speed Phenom - Seems like mostly cosmetic:

This article says it's 854lbs lighter weight than the base C8 with Alcon brakes. I don't see the Alcon brakes in the street versions that I've seen.
https://www.exoticcartrader.com/blog...%20the%20track.

I can see how the C8.R real race car can be 854lbs lighter but how about these 1/1000 special edition street versions? From the videos, it looks all cosmetic and not much weight reduction - lots of leather inside, airbags, etc. How can the street version be 854lbs lighter?

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

It has nothing to do with the C8R race program, it is a cosmetic package.

What a shame and a misnomer. Chevy should build a light weight track version of the C8!

Z06 is very track capable. Z51 is quite track capable with a few modifications.

Z06 is also heavier than C8 Z51. I think the C8 is pretty amazing. Only downsides for my driving and preferences are - 1) brakes: rotors and pads wear out a lot quicker than in my GT3. Just changed to the AP Racing big brake kit. Will see how it does this summer on the track. 2) Exhaust sound - pretty quiet. I changed them to the Borla ATAK exhaust. Sounds so much better! and not ear aching but still sounds good. 3) Weight - shaved some from the brakes and probably 40lbs or so from the exhaust. But I weighed it today and with a fairly empty fuel tank it was 3525 lbs. My 992 GT3 is 3140 with a fairly empty tank. 3525 lbs is with the brakes and exhaust upgrade.

Any ideas for the next weight loss project? I was thinking the seats. I have the GT2 seats.

I have done similar things to you so far. I just installed AP Brakes and went with wider smaller wheels with Nankang AR-1's so well see how that does this season. Last season my biggest changes were coilovers and sway bars, gained about 2 seconds on a track where I was running about 1:23, got me down to 1:21 (only had one event to test them so this should get quicker with a bit of fine tuning). Hoping will be sub 1:20 with the tires and brakes.

I have GT2 seats as well and just put in a harness bar and will run Schroth ASM be,ts to hopefully help hold me in a bit better. If not I will swap out for a fixed seat and do 6 points.

I have not done any serious weight cutting mods. Have you done any suspension stuff yet?

I'm trying out the new Nankang CR-S v2. Can't wait to see how they do. Have not done suspension. C8 kind of needs it. It rides pretty swishy. But my main goal is to loose weight so the brakes and tires last longer than they do in stock form and as a benefit should be faster. I got the harness bar from Paragon which is pretty nice. I got the belts from Paragon and kind of regret not getting the Schroth. I like the Schroth belts.

Agree on the belts, only 4 point I will run. My only concession was didnt get the color I want. Found a set used for $150 so couldnt say no with date codes of 2027

Curious how you like the CR-S V2, I considered them as well. Could go slightly wider on my tires, particularly the rear but not a ton of options. I went 18" front and 19" rear

If you do end up doing suspension, I love these (JRI doubles) third car I have installed them on.

Borla exhaust was the most weight savings. It's mostly pipes with 2 small mufflers now. Stock had a huge muffler - 72lbs.

AP Racing brakes. Saves a little weight but smaller calipers so hopefully smaller wheels will fit. Also bigger rotors should help dissipate the heat and make pads last longer.

I would like to swap exhaust some point, it is easy weight savings. Most 18" wheels clear the AP brakes no problem. My wheels have a good amount of clearance to the barrel and tons of room behind the spokes. I know based on other people's posts that Apex and BC Forged wheels work with 18" as well.

Good to know! I was hoping 18” tires would be cheaper but not so much.
