Default Any oil pan issues?

I was changing the DCT fluid and noticed this oily dirty spot on the oil pan. It’s odd, because it’s in the middle, with no signs of fluid running to that spot. It’s dry, but I’m not sure how it got there. That area looks like it has a seam from the casting, but I don’t see cracks.

Could be casting porosity.

That must be it, I can’t see any other reasons.

You can put some dye in the oil and verify. I wouldn't be comfortable with that.

What are those other dark spots? Is that anything. I'm thinking porosity as well.

Wash it off with soap/water, see if it returns... if it does, you have a porous casting that needs to be sealed/replaced.

I would take it to the dealer and let them handle it under the powertrain warranty before trying to diagnose, clean, etc. anything on your own, which could only mask the issue.

The dark areas on the cross beam are just dirt. I’ll take it to the dealer and hopefully they’ll replace it.

Update: the dealer agrees it’s defective and it’ll be replaced under warranty. FYI, it’s a December 2020 build.

As a note, you may be able to have them replace the stamped DCT fluid pan with a later cast oil pan. The cast pan can be interchanged with the stamped pan although a few less bolts will be installed. Perhaps they are doing this anyway but I'd ask.

This tech link article includes a paragraph that discusses the installation of a die2 (cast pan) on older transmissions with the die 1 (stamped pan).

https://gm-techlink.com/?p=17970

"Service transmissions will also begin to migrate to this updated design for older model years and will require additional parts to be ordered when used in an older model year.Die 1 cases were originally produced with a stamped sump pan with rails. The stamped pans were replaced with the Die 2 cast pans. If any repairs were needed on a Die 1 transmission, it is possible to find a Die 1 transmission with a Die 2 pan installed, which can be identified by comparing the Die 1 and Die 2 bolt patterns. The Die 1 transmission sump pan has 15 bolts (Fig. 9) and the Die 2 cast sump pan has 19 bolts. If the Die 2 pan is installed on the Die 1 transmission, there will be holes in the pan without bolts."
