Brakes for the track and street?
I have the stock Z51 rotors and I assume (have to check) stock Z51 pads on my used 2020 C8. It’s for 12K street miles on it and looks like plenty of pad left so unless the pads are after market I plan to run them on the track for the first track day.
For the longer term I plan to get some CarboTech 1521 pads for the street and swap them out for XP8 or XP10 pads for the track, but it’s not clear which one would be best for me? Any suggestions on the XP8 vs XP10?
Also CarboTech says to not use their pads on a rotor bedded with another pad, so to either machine the rotors or install new rotors. So if I replace to stock Z51 pads with CarboTech pads, should I get new rotors like GiroDisc or just get the stock ones machines down? How do the stock ones do for the track?
If I do need to machine the rotors is that something where I can pull the discs and take them somewhere and have them machine them? Anyone in Charlotte NC area that machines rotors?

I use 1521 on the streeet, AX6 for autocross and will be using XP12 for track days. I spoke with Carbotech and as long as the pads you swap in and out are all Carbotech you don't have to rebed them every time you change.

I will be using the DBA T3 4000 series rotors. The two piece rotors are not allowed in NCCC unfortunately.

Oh so two piece rotors like the Girodisc are not allowed in club racing? I am not planning to race at the moment but you never know.
But those DBA rotors are actually a decent price so maybe it’s best to just use something like that. Plus they are Australian and as an Aussie, that makes me feel good

The main advantage with 2 piece rotors is the better cooling/air flow, and ability to resist cracking since the holes of the ring are slotted, and allow for expansion when there's a major temp delta between the ring and the hub area. I'd definitely get the 2 piece rotors... Well I'd also not get the Carbotech pads since they don't last long at all, and just use non-corrosive / non-abrasive race pads at all times, but I digress : )

Also DBA does have two piece rotors also that seem to be cheaper than the Girodisc etc.
I do want something that lasts and handles the heat as my primary reason for moving to the C8 is that I kept burning up a set of rear pads in one track day on my M5 Comp (car is heavier and fast as hell with 700hp).

EBC SR11 sintered pads might be a great match for your use case in my opinion. AFAIK, their dust is not corrosive like Hawk's race pads are, and sintered pads in general are good on rotors (don't scratch when cold) so you could get away with not changing pads all the time as well.

On Z51, KNS lists a few choices, but none are without caveats. I suppose Cobalt XR1/XR2s might work well, but I know by first hand experience that they don't last as long, either, though should last longer than Carbotechs. Not sure if the longevity would be big enough to justify the price difference, but at the very least, not being paranoid about very short pad life is always a plus. Tough choices..

Yeah I know, reading up on the SR11 made me want a set badly but cannot find them anywhere. And the M5 Comp burned up pads super quick so I want something that will handle the heat and last

The combination that works for me is to run Powerstop Z26 pads as street pads and Cobalt XR1 pads as race pads. The Cobalts are higher priced than Carbotechs, but they last forever, so I think they are actually cheaper per track day. I have 10 track days on them, and they may go another 10. I run stock rotors without issues. FYI when I ran G Loc pads, I would get horrible shudder on the track after a session or two, but the Cobalts work great. Others have had different experiences with having shudder or not on different combinations, so my solution is certainly not the only one. I do change front rotors (stock for stock) when changing pads because I have the calipers off anyway. I leave the rear rotors on since its a small pain to change them with the E brake, etc., and they don’t seem to mind the compound differences between the Powerstops and the Cobalts. I can’t tell you how the Powerstops would work on an autocross but I imagine they would be ok since they are a pretty normal (ceramic, dust free) street pad. Maybe others can chime in on that.

I have cobalt xr (the aggressive one) in rear recommended by kns. it doesn't last like I expected so I am done but I bought 3 sets. I will go back to xp12 . about same performance and cheaper
Wow, you're right! I see them available for AP BBKs, and Z06, but not for Z51. I do own a Z51, but I'm using AP BBKs.
