I'm going to need a set of tires soon. The track days are taking their toll. I'm going to just put stock z51 summer tires on but I'm wondering about balancing. Do these tires and wheels need any special balancing since they run over 100 mph all the time?
I've never had an issue using Discount Tire or the Chevy dealership. My C7 & C8 have been up to 180 MPH on various occasions with no tire balance issue.
180? Jeeezzisss! (sounds incredible... not anywhere near prepared for that kinda speed myself, but hope to get there... maybe at the Silver State Classic?)
I honestly dont think it is a huge deal if tracking regularly, my tires spin on the rims when tracking even with knurled bead seats so balance would be off fairly quickly. Not sure if you see the same thing but many do.
So if I put a [Y] rated tire on it what am I rated for?
What are YOU rated for? If you're like most Corvette owners, probably about 5 mph, but only for a minute or two.
The Y in brackets [Y] means the tire manufacturer has tested the tire at speeds above 186, but there's no standard for how much above. The only way to know would be to ask the tire manufacturer.
