Default Air filter options

We know changing the air filter to an aftermarket replacement is pretty negligible in terms of a huge improvement. We also know the attack blue (dry) and AFE (dry) are pretty similar in performance.

My question is, if they are so similar in performance, why is attack much more popular? Is it the better name brand?

AB has a larger forum vendor/sponsor presence at the moment, got their product in front of all the YouTubers early on, and were first to market with the C8. aFe as a brand is more well-known and established (much larger company with a longer history). aFe was the most popular choice over in the C7 section...because they were first to market and had a larger presence on the forum at the time.

You're welcome. I've personally run both brands, in fact a picture of my C8 AB install is featured on TKO/AB's website. With that said, I personally favor aFe due to their R&D, lifetime quality, and the fact I've been running their products for over 2 decades on multiple vehicles (2 of the current 3 in my garage at the moment too).

If I were doing a drop-in filter that would be my choice, but I currently have:
Track Series Carbon Fiber Cold Air Intake System
Part # 57-10013D

The Attack Blue uses nanofibers in its element so, in theory, it could have better filtering capability than its competitors (or equivalent to the OEM filter) at the equivalent flow rate/pressure drop. The downside of nanofiber filters is they tend to load up quicker and need more frequent servicing to maintain that advantage.
