Took My car in for ac issues and asked them to check a ticking I was hearing, Well Lifter was bad and they were going to replace it. After Engine was removed and they went to replace lifter they found a worn cam, metal shavings in places where they should not be any. The Service Manager contacted GM and reported findings and he got authorization for a new engine. Car has only about 3000 miles. I'm looking for advice on what i need to be concerned about once the new engine is in. Odometer will have 3000 miles but i assume i have a new break in period.. Will this be on the cars history, like car fax? How about the VIN? WiIl it have the original engine serial number associated with it or will gm somehow use the new engines serial number.
Any information I can get on what i need to be concern with is greatly appreciated.
Unfortunately I don't have many answers for you however I can tell you the days of "matching numbers" cars are gone. It won't make any difference wrt the new engine being installed. The service history will show the R&R of a new engine.
I would expect that you would want to got through the RECOMMENDED break in process of course.
I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. Best of luck moving forward
Sounds like a pain in the rear, but aside from that, not a huge problem. Yes, the new engine must absolutely be broken in per the manual. Some of us do 'early' oil changes on new blocks, while some say doing so is a waste of money. I changed mine at 1,200 (did the DCT filter then, too), then again at 7,200, when both oil and DCT filter were changed. Given the large number of these vehicles on the road, it's highly unlikely that a non-numbers matching situation would in any way affect value, assuming the replacement is properly documented. Wouldn't deter me as a buyer for a second. A new factory engine installed by properly trained mechanics is a good thing. Really lousy that it happened, though!
I believe I ever saw where the carfax specifically noted "engine replaced" It may read vehicle serviced. However, if you decide to sell private party, the prospective buyer may contact the dealership to see what service was done. I wouldn't think it would hurt you but great questions. I would ask the dealer how this repair gets reported. I would also ask the SA and/or tech how many engine replacements they have done, just to gauge experience. Please report back how you made out. Btw, 500 miles will likely be the breakin period and you can ask if the warranty would be extended 3k miles on your warranty.
Sorry you went thru this already. How long did it take the dealer to replace your engine? Once the new engine was ordered how long for delivery to dealer doing the install?

I am second owner and it replaced right after Toyota Dealership took in trade.. I was told nothing of the replacement engine! Was not on carfax, only found out about when my water pump went bad and another dealer told me! Was not happy! But to answer your question, best I can tell, after digging for records.. it took 48 days Now the water pump will take at least another two weeks and this with 1717 miles! Hopefully you have a better outcome!! I really love the C8, just not this particular one. Best of luck I would not have bought the car if I knew about It having replaced so early on. I know a lot of owners on here say not to worry about it and will not effect value.. that maybe true But not in my world
Roger
BTW After opening a case with GM, asking for a replacement vehicle I was declined

Not for a second owner. But an issue like that not disclosed if known about and then the second issue, maybe talk to a lawyer.
lemon law in many states covers 2 years from in service date no matter if not original owner. I was second owner of my C8 stingray (traded a car for it with 500 miles) and got my full purchase price which was above MSRP back.

Did you have to go with an Exact same car, or were you able to make changes and pay for them? Did you use a lawyer? About how long was your process to get the replacement? Thank you!

That's what the warranty is for. Break the new engine in properly and move forward. Don't worry about the odometer. Plus, you'll have warranty with the new engine. You didn't mention a timeline, but you didn't mention any hassle with the dealer either....which is a problem more often than it should. Assuming everything is going smoothly.

I got a refund so then was free to buy any car I wanted, didn’t need to be GM as at that point was cash in hand. I did go from a ‘23 3lt Z51 to a ‘25 1LZ Z07
I did not use a lawyer, only the BBb auto line as GM in many states has an agreement to go through their arbitration. If it doesn’t work there is no restriction to then going through lawyer. After I submitted all documents, it took maybe 4 days for them to verify it qualified. At that point the contacted GM and I had an agreement from GM to buy back within 24 hours of claim submission. Negotiation took about 2 weeks but in the end was pointless as at the end of the process they hand off to third party to write offer and they just went word for word by the state lemon law, didn’t matter what me and GM agreed. This is why I went with refund rather than trade for new car.
