Default Yet another exhaust thread

I have an Eray that I plan to do an exhaust upgrade to. I am really after a more aggressive sound, pops/burbles etc, but it does not have to be ear shattering loud. I have heard the Borla S-type and that sounds good but have not been able to hear the Corsa or the Borla ATAK in person. I really want to do high flow cats but am turned off by the laws in NY, warranty issues and the more difficult install (HTC). For folks that have heard these I would be interested in opinions. I am only interested in valved systems (I like my neighbors and do leave early in the mornings), and don't want any drone. I can't find sound bites online of the Borla ATAK or S-Type with valves closed. The Corsa sounds good from audio clips but the best sounds seems to come from the HF Cats. I have had both Corsa and Borla exhausts before and the quality of both seems very good.

I loved my Hookers Black Heart valve exhaust with 2M HF cats combo on my HTC Z51. In Tour, she is quiet at cruising speed. And at Sport/Track, she is transformed to She Hulk lol... She will still be quiet if you are under 1500 rpm at a less aggressive throttle input. The Black Heart system is very well executed to distinguish between valve closed and opened as in decibel. They successfully use a 2 5" pipe to a X muffler to tone down volume while using 3" pipe for the valve side for the aggressive tone. The tips all have the same outer diameter. However it doesn't have the fancy options such as heat heatsheild, carbon tips, titanium, etc...as other more $$$ systems such as ie. Borlas, Fabspeed etc..

Had the FabSpeed German HJS 200 cell Kevlar wrapped cats 4.5 yrs with the stock OEM NPP exhaust. Never a CEL.With those cats it doesn't sound stock at all with oem NPP.. 6 months ago added the NPP Corsa. Deep and nasty combination that isn't over the top, but serious depth with four valves open. No heat increase and 20 lbs lighter. Couldn't be happier since adding the Corsa.

Corsa and Borla are both great options so it comes down to preference in tone.

I find Corsa to generally be raspier/higher pitched (with little to no drone) and Borla to have a deeper tone.

Corsa valved systems have been super popular, as are Borla's S-Type. ATAK is pretty aggressive so that has to align with your expectations.

I have a bunch of systems in stock and would be happy to extend forum pricing. We've installed virtually every system at this point so feel free to PM or call/text to discuss

Borla S Type is our #1 selling exhaust at this point, perfect amount of volume and no drone.
for the c8 a lot of people are content with just the exhaust.

For c8 z06 guys most do sport cats instead just due to the way factory exhausts are designed for the c8 vs c8 z06.

We have plenty of the S Type, Atak, and Corsa's in stock.

So I just saw a couple of videos where a shop installed the "Corsa Extreme with valves". I also saw the videos from Ligenfelter where they have a Corsa Extreme with valves. To my knowledge the real Corsa Extreme has no mufflers and no NPP valves. I have read the Ligenfelter is just the valved Corsa sport with custom tips. Confusing for sure, can anybody confirm? There are a few posts about this on here which seem to suggest the Ligenfelter system is exactly the same as the standard Corsa. For some reason they post different specs and weights but they sure look identical.

I have several options in stock ready to ship. Where in NY are you I can let you hear some of the exhaust options on the c8s I have right now. My C8 Stingray has the new Level Up dual mode catback. It runs off the same electronic valve actuators as your oem exhaust. We're also installing a corsa muffler delete catback on an Eray tomorrow.

Yes, the Lingenfelter is the NPP valved exhaust with just a change in tips, althought I do not get the "extreme" designation (other than the price). Otherwise Corsa's extreme refers to no mufflers and no npp. Either way they make a great exhaust

The Corsa exhaust system can be configured multiple ways on their website:
Tips: Slash or CF
With NPP (& muffler), or without muffler (no NPP)
With AFM valve, or without
The LPE system is the NPP & AFM version with LPE tips.
I got the Corsa NPP & AFM (with slash tips), and it is LOUD when open, honestly almost too loud (especially with top up and rear window down on the HTC as it seems to get amplified). In Tour it's similar volume to the stock NPP exhaust in Track (I know they claim it is quite than stock Tour mode, but it's not. It's also not an issue as it sounds great and isn't obnoxious at all). Sport is the perfect blend as it's reasonably quite, while still audible at low RPMS, but goes crazy once you get on it. The one thing it doesn't do is provide any more decel pop/burble.

I also considered hi-flow cats, but they wouldn't really have been any cheaper when calculating in the install on an HTC, and like you mentioned, there's the potential warranty headache.

Thanks, this is great info. I am leaning towards the Borla S-type to get the heat shielding. I don't think GM changed anything but both my wife and I are sure that this Eray is quieter than my previous two Stingrays, all with the NPP exhaust. I didn't take any measurements but I have spent a lot of time in all of them and the Eray is definitely tame in the sound department.

I threw an outside window thermometer in my trunk recently to check temps. Results after a 6 hour drive last weekend? 112F.

Yeah my C8 Stingray with the new dual mode Level Up Exhaust seems louder than my friends Eray with the muffler delete setup. Eray has bigger cats from the factory so that's no surprise. Im going to have to do some measurements soon.

A cheap valveless x-pipe exhaust any competent exhaust shop can fab up is responsible for people trading their Z06s in on a car that has the same engine as a Stingray. E-Ray owners drink more kool-aid than Tesla fanboys.

Edit: Nevermind just Vette Titan things. Keep selling those tinfoil hats.

Actually that's pretty good! We hit 115* in Phoenix and the suburbs at least a few days every year.

Our valved system and high flow HJS 200 cell cats are a very popular combo.

Guaranteed no CEL and a 1 week lead time.

Happy to extend forum pricing! PM or send me an email: mark.gotzman@fabspeed.com
