Can someone point to where or even if this "first oil change and filter is covered by GM" appears in the Owner's Manual or in the Warranty Manual??? I've certainly received mailings from GM stating this first oil change is covered but I'm just curious as to where it might be in the owner's documentation... Also, does this GM covered first oil change expire after one year??? I am about to go have an early oil change (~ 1,300 miles) and I'm trying to decide if I need to use the GM covered oil change NOW... I think likely YES but I'm just trying to understand the GM policy on this... Also, I've heard that it used to be that the GM covered oil change was once coupled to the requirement to replace the DCT filter at 7,500 miles but that such is no longer the case... That instead the GM covered oil change can be done separately... I don't drive lots of miles so it will be a while before I approach 7,500 miles... Any help??? thanks...
The first service isn't in the owners or warranty manuals, it is on the window sticker and sales documentation. The valid time period depends on the year but newer cars can get the free engine oil change within 2 years of sale and a free DCT filter change within the first 3 years as long as the car has at least 7K miles on it.
The best way to see your individual status is long onto the Chevrolet website with your VIN and look in the warranty section, or use the MyChevrolet app.

Got it... thanks... yes, I see mention of this first maintenance visit on the Window Sticker... And I also looked on my "myChevrolet" app and I see that I have two years (car was received at my dealer and sold to me on 3/31/25 and app says I have until 3/30/27 to do that "first maintenance visit"... Car currently as 1243 miles (oil life says 69%) and I'm going in within the next week or two to do a first, early oil change... Again, thanks for the help!!!!

Do you also see a separate item for the DTC filter change change in your account? It should show that you have 3 years for that (since you have a 2025). As already mentioned, it was combined (and still is) for model years prior to 2024.

Yes, "First Maintenance Visit" shows that it expires in TWO YEARS for my car received at my dealership (and paid for) on 3/31/25. And "First Ext. Canister Trans Filter Maint" shows that it expires in THREE YEARS for my car... See pictures... I was at the dealership a couple days ago and the service guy told me they "used to have to combine the two" but that now "GM allows them to separate the two"... ???
I am far, far removed from getting to 7,500 miles to do the DCT filter. But for now, my interest is with doing an early oil change. Likely, now that I know I have two years on that oil change, I will likely pay for this first one and then do the GM covered one in about a year beyond this upcoming oil change...

Thanks! Yeah - it more like for 2024 models and later GM "requires" them to separate the two - not "allows" them to. It only applies to 2024 and later and is not retroactive to prior model years, so the are not "allowed" to separate the two for those model years. For 2024 and beyond there are two separate labor codes they must use - one is for the oil change and one is for the DTC filter change.

Notice too that there is no upper mileage limit for claiming either service. While the filter change needs to be between 7000-8000 miles even if done earlier in order to meet the scheduled maintenance requirements, and you must have at least 7000 miles to claim it per the bulletin, there is no upper mileage limit for claiming it.
The oil change has essentially no mileage limits upper or lower for claiming it - but of course to meet the schedule maintenance requirements it must be changed when the Oil Life System says so, which will be at least once per year and never more than 7,500 miles from the last oil change.

Understood... I live in a small town and unless I leave town I don't put miles on quickly... With my 2012 C6 I recently sold, I was putting about 1,000 miles per year.... Did yearly oil changes on time, not miles... So.... I will likely just pay for the DCT filter as I will likely not get to 7,000 miles in three years... Appreciate the help... thanks...

I'd use the free oil change when you first have it done. There is no advantage of saving it for later and who knows what could happen in the future.
