I don't believe so, but it's possible.. not sure why it's saying to service it.. just wondering if anyone has had this indicator pop up. There are no performance issues.

Most definitely, just seeing if someone has seen the same notification..
This is one of those times when you wish you had an OBD scanner. I have the BlueDriver blue tooth OBD scan tool. It can read codes, clear most, and logs data. Not expensive either. I did not see any reason to splurge mucho dinero on a simple code reader when at the end of the day, if it is a major issue, and you are under warranty...the dealer has to figure it out. I may change my mind down the road when not in warranty, or if I feel I need to be more informed than the dealer when presenting a problem...hmmm, well I think it is very prudent of us to be really well informed on what is going on with our cars to point the dealer in the right direction. The days of basic troubleshooting 101 at the dealer are over, unless you find a genuinely good dealer.
Never heard of it. I searched the Service Manual I have for "service gear" and "gear indicator". Neither one appears. To clarify, you are talking about a written text message on the dash that says that right - and not s symbol? The manual sometimes spells out messages that may appear on the DIC, but not all of them, and not this one.
Its not clear what a gear indicator would be. There are displays on the HUD and DIC that will show the currently engaged gear.
The transmission has position sensors for each of the 5 shift forks - to detect any issue with fork positions deviating from the commanded position. There are trouble codes generated when a discrepancy is found. I don't think those sensors are "serviceable" at this time.
As suggested already, you'll need to have dealer check for codes or find a way to check for codes. But then you will still need to have the dealer fix it. The diagnostic procedure I found for the shift fork position errors (different codes for each of the 5 forks) is (unfortunately) quite simple. Clear the code(s) then see if they come back. If one does, replace the transmission. My manual is a 2020. Later versions have included some (but very few) additional repair procedures for internal parts, but its very limited. Its not easy to get to those sensors.
If you are not having driveability issues, you probably have a different issue. Maybe even a message that.s not supposed to be there. There are rare reports of items on a display that are clearly for a different car. That happens because some shared software will include items for multiple models.
Yeah, I just purchased a code reader to try and decipher what codes, if any are being used. I try to stay away from the dealer if at all possible. Thanks for the info!
It only shows a written text message, no symbol. And it clears once it tells me to use the "check" button on the steering wheel to acknowledge the message.
When you say no codes, do you mean the CEL is not lit, or did you check with a scanner? There are DCTs that do not cause the CEL to light.
Anyway, I could not find a reference to that specific issue or DTC associated with it. There are shift fork position sensors - and DTC associated with them. They are type A DTCs and as I read it, they would have caused the CEL to light. OK - I see you did get a scanner.
