Default Positive Battery Cable Failure

Anyone else experience this on a stingray?

14,000 miles

You’ll be stuck in park unless you adjust the DCT lever to throw it into neutral and have it delivered to the dealer…

It’s hard to see what actually happened with the positive power cable. Is that clue on the end in the second picture?

looks like some one has been working in there too lately , you want to double check the one hose clamp [spring type one ] and do they still use screw type clamps ?

It's hard to tell for sure from the picture showing the end but it looks like the area around the outside of the terminal has been broken for a while and the rougher area at the center finally let go.

Has any work been done in that area?

Too clean of a break, I bet there was a stress riser across the connector at that point, possibly from the crimping.

The picture was taken by the tech getting prepared to fix it. I’m not sure what you mean by the screw type clamp? The stainless steel clamp looks normal to me. To answer your question, the motor has never been replaced and is the original. The only thing done was an exhaust system and high flow cats. I don’t think that would require any of this to be undone for installation.

yeah it’s a clean break! Crazy…. What do you mean? Do you have a C8 to compare? GM has already replaced the part and didn’t say anything else needed to be replaced other than the cable itself.

Interesting.
Could it be a stress crack from OEM?
Bolt/ nut was not tightened and vibration?
Orientation of the cable?

Seems like a simple replacement, but what was the cause?

Its a mystery. But when certain work is done, its common practice to disconnect the battery. Usually its the negative cable and usually at the battery end. Doesn't seem to explain this.
