Default 2026 TPMS reset "required tool"

Got a 2026 that I ordered with base wheels. I had a set of Black 20 spoke GM wheels to put on. Put em on, left the car sit overnight, first drive this morning everything seemed fine. Subsequent to that every time i started the car I got the TPMS warning. I was looking around in the display and found the "Do you want to do a TPMS reset page". I clicked yes, next question was, do you have the required tool ? Does anyone know what the "required tool" is ? My 2024 would automatically detect different sensors every time. And I changed wheels around a lot, Seems like the 2026 might be pickier.

I have the GM/Ford learning tool, which can help you finish up the learning process in a minute. If you pick no, I presume it'll just auto-learn, which will require driving. I don't think it should be any more 'pickier' : ))

Based on your 2026 Owner's Manual, your 2026 auto learn should work the same way as previous models (clip attached). You just drive.

My 2021 has menu item for TPMS learn but it is NOT used to initiate the auto-learn feature - t if you initiate it through the menu in the car, then yes, it requires the tool.

There have some cases reported when the auto learn fails. Often they have been traced to the fact that the TPMS sensor itself, in the tire, was either not compatible or it required "programming" for the C8 application.

I currently own 3 C8 Z06s and 1 '26 ZR1. I also have three sets of wheels/tires for each of the 4 cars or 12 total sets of tires/wheels. I can confirm that the '26 is different (atleast for my car) than other model years as I needed my handy GM TPMS sensor tool since my '26 ZR1 did not automatically sense the sensors after screwing around for a couple of hours driving around in the '26. Finally just pulled out the GM sensor tool and all was good on the '26 ZR1 after using the tool.

Another example of the car not reading the manual. There are few examples of that. The clip did come from the 2026 manual though.

Same tool I used on my '26 as well. Works well on all C8 model years. And the least expensive "tool" one will ever find!

Post # 6... I have that exact (inexpensive) tool...used on 2023 HTC SR.... works perfect.

Go to the left side dash screen display, find tire reset, hold button for 5 seconds,
right front (drivers) blicker illuminates, hold tool to valve stem, horn beeps, go to pass. front, repeat,
go to pass. rear, blinker flashes once, repeat, go to driver rear, repeat. When
completed honks twice. Procedure from my memory

Yes, TPMS will auto learn, yet the tool sets TPMS from the "get-go".
