Well, it's also been pointed out that the rear suspension of the C8 creates negative camber as the tire move down (as in this shot) versus maintaining the same camber. So as the driver side is unloaded and the car shifts to the passenger side, grip is actually removed more than it should because of suspension geometry. So that wider rubber may be just to compensate for compromised suspension geometry.
