I spoke to Estero Bay Chevrolet in SW Florida (#16 in Corvette sales in 2020) today regarding their process for “getting on their list” for a Z06. They do not yet have a “list”. They are waiting to get notified of their allocation BEFORE accepting deposits. The salesman stated they do not want a lot of customers placing deposits that they will never have vehicles to sell to them.

Sounds like a reasonable approach to me.
This seems like BS to me. If they wait until hearing how many allocations they have, where are they going to find buyers in that short span between time allocations are announced and orders need to be submitted to WorkBench?

Some of the thousands of people that want one, but didn't get on a list or didn't get a good spot elsewhere?

Right so explain to me how they’ll contact the thousands of people who want one when they don’t have a list? They gonna scour the forums to see who’s angry about their 4,000 spot on Ciocca’s list and message them?

Once allocations drop and it become general knowledge, everyone who wants one will be ringing up dealers, everywhere. This dealer likely intends to "auction" off the allocations once they receive them... that's my guess.
Enthusiasts know to get on early.... not the average person though...

I agree with this there. They aren’t forming a list because the allocations they get will go to the highest bidder

A bunch of people are super cynical and think everyone has motives to rip off the customer. Well, I guess 90% of GM dealerships do, so maybe they give us reason to .
That said, Estero Bay has been what of the "good" dealers and ha been selling Stingrays at MSRP. Things may change, and at some point the idea of a big ADM might be hard to turn down so who knows what they'll do 6 months from now, but there are a handful of dealers that deserve the benefit of the doubt to start. No reason to make a bunch of negative and baseless allegations about dealers who have a good past until they show us something different.
They should absolutely wait until the last possible minute to start a list, then set a date and time for the world to wire deposits without any control over how many they receive. Then spend weeks sorting through emails and wires while not trying to make it obvious they didn’t think it through.…
It makes no sense to me why they would wait for the last minute unless they intend to do an auction or other high ADM approach. I’m not saying they should rack up 5k+ customer deposits, but at least take a list of names.

They could send up smoke signals or fart “Z06” into a megaphone driving down the street, and either way buyers will come running.
