When Mike became GM's design chief shortly before the release of the C8 I worried that he would want to put his stamp on the C8. After reviewing some of his work at Buick I was not terribly encouraged.
But the Z06 WOW! A nip here and a tuck there, what a dynamic beauty.
I don't really know what Mike's role was in the transformation process but I know that he had to approve the result.
I thought that the C8 was a good looking car, but the Z06 is much better looking with just a few subtle changes.
Honestly I think the Z06 was designed first, then toned down for the base model.
I was thinking about this and I wish GM would give us a documentary on how this car and past Corvettes were designed as it is fascinating though maybe they won't want their secrets out.
Do you remember the two different bodies of the c8 considered? They had them in clay. We got the one with the boomerang intake. The other was an intake similar to what Ferrari does with the 488. I wonder if that was scrapped sure to it being harder to make a wide body without changing doors. If that is the case then it would seem the z06 is designed afterwards but very much on their minds when designing the base....
