I'm fairly seriously interested in a C8. I owned a C6 about 10 years ago. It was a great and special car to me. I've had many other fast cars since then and I've been thinking about making a return to Corvette. I had the chance to drive a C8 today (not Z51) and I'm not quite sure what to think of it. From a dead stop, I was seriously impressed with the acceleration. On the other hand, when I was doing some spirited driving around the city to get a feel for the cornering and handling and I'd stomp on the gas, It felt fast but it didn't really throw me around like my old boss' C7 Z06 (I know 150ish HP difference) or like the G82 M4 that I had the chance to drive as well. The car was in sport mode and I wanted to ask the forum if that's maybe the reason why?
I've tried to do my own research as far as I think track mode would be faster but how much? Also, since this isn't a Z51 car (no Performance Driving Mode) but I came aware of Competition Driving Mode. How much more does that open things up vs sport or track? If I were to get another test drive, what would you suggest as far as truly able to get the rolling acceleration that I suspect the car has but I didn't experience?
Drive modes affect more the feeling of the car rather than the speed. More sound, firmer ride, steering, sportier suspension tuning algorithms.
The Z06 should solve your issue.
This, 100%. OP - you’re confusing the dynamic modes (steering, suspension, throttle response) and thinking they open up some more power it does seem; there’s a ton of posts on the different ride modes, check out the C8 General section for sure.
