Default Spring Mountain Doesn’t like spouses.

So, I talked to the Spring Mountain folks. They are only allowing one class per Z06 VIN. Even if you want to pay full price for your spouse to do the class. I am not talking ride along - full class. My wife likes to drive and has gone to numerous driving classes. They pulled this crap on the 2019 ZR1 class and it sucked. My wife and I are both owners of our new Z06. We should both be able to attend.

Rant off,
D.

I think they are just limiting it for the time being due to the amount of Z06s produced to this point. MY guess is next year once the classes have been going for a while and they have cycled more cars in, they will not be as stringent on owning a Z06 to participate in the Z06 classes

Only allowing one person per voucher makes sense however I don’t understand why they won’t let the spouse pay full price to drive a second car. This must be an issue with how the courses are funded, where the owner’s course is exclusively offered to 1 new owner per car. Have you asked to have your voucher applied towards a standard course (IE. Level 2 course) instead of the owners course, and your spouse pays full price for their drive?

Or they want more unique people to be able to attend. Just another view on it. I'm guessing its a highly sought after event.

I suspect GM requires the use of their car (Z06) only by the registered owner of a Z06. That is how it was with the C6 and C7 ZR1s.

I would recommend giving the Z06 class to your wife and sign up to their level 2 course for yourself (non-Z06) or the other way around.

My wife and I were there twice and they were very accommodating to her (She didn't drive).

Probably not enough cars, but it is bogus. ZR1 was one year only run at the end of the line. They are going to crank out plenty of the Z06s. We both did the C7 Z06 class there. Along with a handful of C5 classes, CTS-V class, etc. Heck we have been going there when Rupert Bragg-Smith started it. The white tents were the only structures out there.

ZR-1Dude - Understand the frustration but if you (and the wife) have already done one (or multiple) driving schools you will not learn much more (than you already know) at the corvette owners school, yes they are fun but not a lot of game changing learning going on.

Having attended the C7 Grand Sport owners school, Skip Barber (F4) and the Corso Pilota (812 and 488), they are all pretty much the same (ok the food was way better at Corso Pilota and Eddie Cheever III was my coach) but…. I would recommend taking the $4500 ish you would spend on you and the wife at spring mountain and sign up for COTA with edge addicts in your car plus a set of CUP 2s.

I learned more from a pro coach in one session at COTA than I learned in two days at spring mountain, I am not knocking it, I will sign up for the Z06 owners school as soon as I take delivery, the best $1000 you can spend and a great time, maybe call it $3000 - $4000 if you add in dinner and blackjack at the Wynn on the way home.

Consider yourself a lucky man that has a wife who likes to drive!

For the record , Spring Mountain treated my wife great.

SM is only doing the COS class for the Z06 at this time, no higher level classes.

Default Only one Z06 Owner’s Class per VIN

I understand your pain. My wife and I attended the C8 owners school together in 2021 and she loved it! I used a GM certificate and paid full price for my wife.

I am a member at Spring Mountain and talked to management about Z06 classes. I had a different request, but this issue came up when they explained to me why they couldn’t honor my request.
Since I had been through the C8 owners class I wanted to upgrade to a higher level class for the Z06 to get more open lapping sessions. SM explained to me that given the still limited availability of Z06s and the backlog of owners to get a class, there will not be any classes other than the owners version until the backlog is eliminated. For the same reason they will only be able to accommodate one class per VIN and will not be selling any extra spots for full price the way they do for the SR school until the backlog is eliminated. They said once demand from owners goes down they will start selling open spots, but did not expect that would happen within the one-year allowance from GM.

SM is doing everything they can to make sure every Z06 owner can get a class before the one-year clock runs out.

Spring Mountain does like spouses. I was surprised to learn my wife was invited and could attend the classroom and ride along with the instructors. Virtually full use of the resort minus the driving. A pretty good deal in my opinion.

It's simply a supply and demand issue SM has a limited number of Z06's so limited number of classes and they want to make sure new Z06 owners get a chance to attend the class class before opening it up to anyone willing to pay full price or public. I'm sure in time this will open up as SM gets more Z06's in their inventory.

As I recall SM has a couple of hundred Stingrays but not many Z06's.

Not sure about spouses, but I believe there are more people signing up than they have Z06’s for. And that’s not including C8’s. I believe it’s getting more popular. I signed up in January. Supposedly so far having just one Z06 class. I believe it’s starting June 5. No word on the next one.
just found out that I was able to sign up for July 17-18 class. I’m stoked.

This has nothing to do with Spring Mountain as the program is being dictated by GM. There is simply not enough cars available to handle the demand, so until GM can provide enough Z06s to Spring Mountain they will tell Spring Mountain how they want the program run with the cars they have been provided.

I am expecting they will be using the East Track, short course without the intermediate straight and double+ chicane.
