2024 c8 z06 (not z07)- a little over 600 miles a CEL came on. took to dealer for diagnosis and also had them picoscope the RH tapping noise. a gm engineer happened to be there and did the pico procedure and said it passed and was one of the quietest taps he's heard (despite being noticeable from inside, and outside via the passenger side intake). they said there was no code associated with the CEL but when I picked it up they said it was a suspension leveling code so I asked for the number and they said C2A3D. can't find code descriptions for the car, if anyone can help finding it I'd be greatly appreciative. thanks in advance, service receipt attached.
thank you very much, is there a service manual available or a link to all codes for future info? for some reason nothing was transmitted to onstar which is discouraging
But why do some have no tick? the reason it is ticking is because the valve lash is not correct on that valve. The noise is the gap between the finger follower and the lash cap. Over time damage will happen.
So either the wrong lash cap was chosen or the camshaft was not torqued properly. There will always be some noise because of the mechanical nature of the valvetrain.
that's what I figured with the solid lifters, happy I have something in writing to show perspective buyers it's been checked when my eray comes in next spring.
General Motors does not want to repair any ticking LT6s. The TSB has the cam cap bolts backed off and then torqued back down. Some of these bolts have snapped necessitating engine removal. To circumvent this from happening, every ticking LT6 now passes the pico test. Its a sham. Any engine will display 'normal' running noise. But, when you hear something that sounds like an old school stuck lifter, you've got a problem. Something is way out of clearance in the valvetrain and there is no way this will not impact long term durability. Do you think a professional engine shop could stay in business building ticking engines? Had I gotten a ticking LT6, I would have done everything I could to lemon the car. Its a disgrace that GM would tell an owner that his ticking LT6 is 'normal'. The only normality I see is GM is perfectly willing to sell high end lemons to the public and then declare there is nothing wrong with them refusing to take further action.
I have built around 20 700-1000 hp big and small block chevs and if an engine on the dyno sounded like my z06 engine the valve covers would be off looking for the problem. What would be nice is to know the clearance they want cold between the valve stem lash cap and the cam lobe follower. Lets say it is 8ths we should be able to measure this and replace the lash cap to correct the issue. The lash cap's are built different thickness. So the retorque is to seat the cam again hoping it moves further down to decrease the clearance. Mine is on the driver side, i noticed yesterday the tick was about gone with a oil temp of 170. In a colder climate it is almost impossible to get the oil temp up to around 170. I was going to do the job my self but not after i here about bolts breaking. That tells me the bolts were over torqued beyond the strech limit and that might be why they are breaking when removed. My tick is not that loud compared to others online but it is there.
