Default Check Engine Light...

My Z06 has 750 miles and has been parked for the winter. Today I had to move it to the other side of the garage, it hadn't been started in 4 to 5 weeks. While I was moving it I noticed the Check Engine light was on. On-Star sent the codes; ECM-Engine System P0301, P0307 and P0300. They of course said to call the dealer for service.

Has this happened to anyone else or have any insight?

Thanks,

Steven

How long did you let it idle for? Did you let the oil temp get above 160 every time? Are you sure the tender is even working?

That is a ridiculous statement, some people like myself have to store cars due to weather conditions. My cars sit for up to 6 months and are always on a battery tender, never had any issues in over 20 years. Now if your car is parked outside and pests and rodents get to the wiring, that's another story. Also water damage can also play it's part into damaging the electronics.

To the OP's issue, when you have the opportunity just drive the car around for a while and see if the MIL goes away. If not simply take it into the service department.

You never had a c8z in the past 20 years lol

thats what I’m saying. This is new territory for most of us aside from the very few who got their cars early 2023.

with how finicky these cars are, I’m sure the cold weather doesn’t help with these gremlins.

not saying to drive it during a blizzard but those storms last a day, streets get plowed, then it’s time to drive.

I did consider the battery when I was trying to figure it out. I did wonder if taking it for a drive and letting the alternator recharge to battery would make a difference or clear the codes.

I never said I had a C8 Z06 in the past 20 years, I will find out this spring since my car has been parked since Oct 2023. I call BS on your theory.

I wasn't referring to the battery state of charge, if the tender is on and functional the battery state of charge should be fine. Now a battery could have a bad cell which could cause issues. Sensors can be finicky such as O2 sensors which can get moisture build up, this can throw a check engine light due to improper fuel mixture. Now you take that same car for a good run and get some heat into it and bingo the light goes out and the problem is solved.

I’m not saying you did In literal terms.

I commenting on your “never had an issue the past 20 years “ statement.

this c8z, with all the known and whacky issues, isn’t something to take lightly.

I hope your car doesn’t develop issues this winter. I don’t wish that upon anyone.

but I will bookmark this post until spring time when we see new threads about issues or potential issues from taking cars out of storage.

We are at the mercy of the machine, we can't control the outcome. This isn't like a baby and you didn't feed it, burp it or change it's diaper. It's a car if it can't sit for an extended period of time without having issues then it's a POS. One would think more would go wrong with revving the snot out of it at 8600 rpm. I know most people don't like taking the car to the dealer myself included but we have no choice.

No I totally agree. Listen I have a z06 and I pray each day I start it it’ll be just fine just like my c7z of 7 years with ZERO issues and never a cel EVER.

but this car seems different. The engine is unfamiliar to us. This car itself is unfamiliar to us.

everything we read so far has been pretty shaky.

So that’s why I feel like because of this under normal circumstances, the cold weather won’t help with these issues and hiccups, it’ll only amplify it.

Drive it up to temp and get a few cycles on it.

I would also consider using a code reader to clear the codes and/or disconnecting the battery for about 10 minutes before taking it to a dealer.

LOL
Your Tesla will have more recalls before any issues arise letting Z06 sitting for 6 months. And you drive that all the time, no?
My C7Z has over 30K miles and sits longer now since I bought my C8Z, and it starts every time. Wether it sits 3 months, or 6 months.
My trackhawk sat idle in my insulated garage with a mini split for almost a year. Guess what? Took it out over the holidays, put 500 issue free miles on it.

looking forward to your April/May post..👍

Most likely clogged injectors take it out for a spin then put it through several start stop cycles to see if the codes clear

Stay off the public forums and Facebook for a year and enjoy the car. 99% of us have zero problems with our Z06s..
