Will fly out, pick up from MF and drive home next week after almost four years waiting for allocation. With ccb’s.
Interested on any operators that performed burnish / break in procedure.
Where did you do it?
When did you do it?
Before and after?
Thank you.
The brakes are horrible when you first get the car, be warned! I had no confidence in my stopping power. After 500 miles I street burnished and it's helped a lot and eliminated squeeling I had before. I went out at 5:45am on a Sunday on some roads that don't get too much traffic and have a 60 mph speed limit. Took me about an hour to complete.
If you can safely do so, I’d recommend tryin to get the car up to about 70mph and then braking hard (not enough to activate ABS) down to a near stop a few times.
When I got my Z06 with CCBs I went to a little seaside town called Pacifica on the first day driving. It has some very steep hills. At one of these hills is a stop sign. And tho I was only going 25mph, my car JUST. WOULD. NOT. STOP. My foot was pushing down to the floor and the car made it about half a length into the intersection. I was freaked.
After this I did a few hard braking events late at night with nobody around and since then the brakes have been incredible.
As already noted, if you do not track car, burnishing is not necessary. If you do burnish, remember to put AC on recirculating because when you do it correctly and the gasses burn off, it will smoke and stink. It can make you nauseous.
There is a street burnishing & track burnishing procedure outlined in your owners manual. Imo, burnishing them is necessary. Try to find a rural, straight road that's lightly traveled where you can get up to speed and quickly brake multiple times. The number of times is stated in the manual.
I'm a huge proponent of at least the street burnish on these things. Takes all of about 15 minutes and gives you the confidence that the car will stop when you need it to. A Z06 on fresh CCBs with no mileage seems like it has brakes from a 1990s pickup truck the first time you drive it.
I agree with those that had trouble stopping in the first couple hundred miles, but after some routine hard street stops, the CCBs worked fine.
Today I did the first track day with my C8Z (very experienced tracker), used the first session to burnish them as suggested at the track in the OM. I had no brake problems in the following 3 track sessions (running Castrol SRF fluid). I did not notice any major improvement in street stopping on my 120 mile drive home. 3.6 MPG for the 60 miles of track time, which included a good amount of idling.

Reason: MPH to MPG haha
Anyone else seeing more brake dust with the CCBs than expected? I’ve had Porsche and Audi CCBs on multiple cars with almost zero dust but still have a decent amount with the Z06 CCBs.

Yes. I notice more dust than expected, and I've done the burnishing procedure.
IMO you NEED to do the burnishing regardless if you track or not. As a few others have stated already, when I first got the car I was shocked on how bad the brakes felt..almost like pushing on a brick. After hitting the 500 mile mark and doing additional research on the importance of burnishing the CCB on the C8 I broke them in properly one night following the exact guidelines in the manual. I cannot overstate the difference in feel, it was massive. Now the brakes work perfectly with great pedal feel!
