On star
My z is about to be month old so free on star trial is ending. Do I need to keep it for the cell phone app? I like knowing I have the app as backup to keys but don't think that's worth $20/month. What do people here do? Thx

If you want the remote unlock feature, there's a much cheaper plan. Call OnStar and ask for the Remote Access plan. If you pay up front, you can get it for about $105 a year. You'll have to ask for that price, though.
But even with remote unlock, I'm not sure you can drive the car if you've lost the keys. You can use the remote start in the app to start the car, and remote unlock to get into it, but I don't think you can put the car in gear and drive away unless you have a fob in the car.

Just got message my on star ended yesterday but phone app still working. Can lock and unlock using phone. Gives me car data too. Is this mistake on their part or is it separate from on star subscriptions? Thx

Just spoke to them. I have 8 years of what they call free trial. Gives me all the Wi-Fi connectivity stuff, nav, remote phone app, on air updates, etc.
But no roadside assistance at all anymore. That's a bundle with other things like stolen vehicle recovery that is $30 per month. So weird there is no tow coverage during 3 yr warranty period but that's how they do it. I will call my insurance to see if can add towing to policy for much less than onstar wants.

Ugh more confusion on this. Chevy offers 6 yrs roadside assistance free with car that is separate from on star! So don't need onstar at all for towing. But I'm still keeping my insurance roadside coverage bc Chevy will only bring to Chevy dealer. Onstar is very shady about what they offer
