Yup 2200 mi. and I get rear-ended by a tractor trailer! I won't go into the details but I'm looking for a Corvette collision expert in the Rochester N.Y. or western N.Y. area. Thanks

Diverman ~ so sorry to hear about your beautiful car. Just from experience and FWIW, if you’re planning to have the car repaired/restored, don’t forget to file a claim with the insurance company for “Diminished Value”. Your car can be returned to its original beauty but, the damage will be forever in “CAR FAX”. Future re-sale can be heavily impacted. Food for thought!

Op, sorry to hear. I'm from Syracuse and we use to specialize in Corvette repairs for 40 years when I owned my collision shop, sold it in 2023. I would be happy to help you out with the claim and I have a great company that you can use for diminished value. PM me and we can exchange cell #s.

Contact Van Bortel Corvette in Macedon and ask them for a recommendation. Ask to speak with Matt in Corvette in sales.

Be sure to find a “Certified GM Shop”
We have been tirelessly working on a 2024 Eray that got lightly rear ended by a tractor trailer. It happened on a backed up off ramp of the PA Turnpike where traffic was creeping along stop and go. The truck tapped the back of the Eray. It looked somewhat minor at first look. Needed a new diffuser, rear cover, one tail light, rear low spoiler and wickers. We ordered the parts and told the owner to bring car back once we got all the parts in.
Parts arrived at our shop April 1. Car was there next day. Once we removed the rear cover we found the beam was damaged and the tub cracked in two places. NOW that minor job turned into a major job and it now included a new beam and tub. Those 2 parts are extremely hard to get AND those two parts will only be sold to a Certified GM Corvette Aluminum repair shop.
So, check your car to see if the tub has to be replaced. If so it is a HUGE job. Without going into details to replace the tub in this car it had to be taken apart all the way down to only the frunk lid was still attached to the car. Rear quarters off, doors off, front fenders off, front cover off, rockers off, seats out.
Between all the work and waiting to get hard to get parts this car has been since April 1 and we expect to finally finish the job next week August 21 or 22.

It was a shock to us as well. So much of these cars are basically glued (bonded) together it makes life hard. But replacing a tub in these cars is big work. I can imagine a 2020-2021 Stingray with some miles on them being totaled after a rear end hit that cracks the tub. The tub is extremely close to the rear of the car behind the rear cover. Here’s a look at the new tub.

Corvettes get totaled easily. Insurance company probably will. From experience they will give ya a check. And you can go hunt for another.
Biggest problem is the frame. These new cars the frame is meant to save the driver. Not good to try and get the frame right
