Default Engine Breakin...

Greetings..
Have 100 miles down and have to share, I can feel the positive difference in general driving the Z over the '24 Eray we traded, Im stoked, glad I made the trade. Question.. keeping it at and under the 4K rpm.. I have her in the Z mode and manual shifting.. allowing me to clearly watch the RPM and Im not keeping her at a constant speed or RPM... has anyone tried that during the break-in period? See any worries doing that, the Owners Manual isn't that clear of the dos and don'ts? Thanks... God Bless!

Welcome! You are doing everything right. You SWG looks very similar to mine - do you have any larger photos you can post up?

Sweet, congrats! That's a cool convertible, and the red seats and that trim level really complete the look.

You'll be fine but the break in redline is 6500 RPM'S for your Z06.

Up and down the RPM band at light-to-moderate throttle is better for break in.
A bit of throttle helps seat the rings,
A bit off throttle helps oil the cylinder liners, for the next tor of throttle.

Welcome! Wait til you get to a few thousand miles, the sounds of this beast gets better and better. It’s insanely fun even to just drive the golf course.

just my 2 cents, but the more you can drive it and longer distances, the better the engine breaks in. I put 1500 miles in 30 days on mine. Did several constant drives of 100-200 miles, up and down gears and speeds. My car is solid.

great color btw. lol

Its a great AC... ours had a bit more Geewiz stuff .. Inflight refueling probe, weather radar, forward looking infrared radar.. just put the miniguns on when i left.. prior had the M240 machine gun.. now I understand they have the 50cal in each door! Our primary mission was combat rescue, secondary.. Space Shuttle support take off and landings.. long range open ocean rescues off of cruise ships and freighters as we good inflight refuel off of our sister AC.. HC 130s!

That's a hell of a career! Way more exciting than my stint. I waited 6 months for a jet aircraft mechanic job only to have them stop the entire swearing-in process and tell I am so colorblind that I couldn't take that job - everything is color-coded. So I ended up doing telecomm & crypto. But it was a great thing to do as an 18-year-old, even when they sent me to Turkey for my first base.

My SWG coupe just ticked over 2500 miles and I'm loving it! Slowly getting ready to track it in October, when my schedule opens up a bit. Can't wait! Or you going to do the Ron Fellow's school?

I was lucky as we picked our Z06 at the museum and drove 400 miles home in one day. Didn't take long to break it in after that. 4,000 miles, zero oil consumption, no leaks, and it screams like a banshee.

Thanks again for your service to Country.. Tech school must have been long.. I went to Kirtland AFB for the PaveHawk Helo Flight Engineer school.. then back at Homestead AFB for night tactical on NVGs, then water and NVG water... I am also retired from Fla Power and Light.. state electrical utility and now the past 15 years I own a consulting practice that provides Quality and Regulatory support for medical device manufactures to be compliant for the country they want to sell in.. so if its the US.. its the FDA.. had clients around the world..
When I bought the ERay new.. they offered the school.. since that vehicle was purchased on a trade of a 21 Stingray.. I thought I should be fine.. now I think the driving environment has changed a great deal.. from what I can see after 500 miles.. will talk with the Bride.. and see..

If you purchase a new Zo6 in a different state is there a limit on how far you can drive it during break in? Interstate at 75 mph for hours is normally not how you break in a engine

I think this is the true way of breaking in this beast, 400 miles, gets really hot and seals everything. I think the guys that only drive it to cars and coffee, they probably wondering why they have issues. Lol.

I mapped out a route that pretty much avoided the interstate. When we were on one I would run up and slow down, never used cruise control.
