Default Oil change experience

Just got first oil change done. Only one dealer in my county does c8 service so I made appt 2 months advance. Then day prior, they rescheduled me another month wait. So not great start

Dropped car off on wed evening, they finished oil Thur but I couldn't get there until today. So good news is oil is proper level, I met tech who is a nice guy. Also had lots c8s there for service including new 26 z that was still covered up

Bad news is I also asked for tire rotation but they didn't do it bc ps4 tires are directional and can't be rotated. I knew that was incorrect but figured I would have rotated when goes back soon for fuel fill recall. So I'm ok w that but only vette tech in county should know need rotate tires!

Next was I left pdr in auto record to see what went on and now sd card is missing from slot! They obviously took it out since it was recording when I dropped it off. I haven't said anything yet. Where will that get me anyway? They will just deny it and get antagonized for next time I come in. Not like I can switch service centers. (Please no comments I should diy. That's not relevant)

3 months to get an oil change?
Not knowing if tires are directional?
Stealing your SD card? I don't even know what to say.

Can I ask what state you're in? Just curious, I understand not wanting to post the dealer's name if you aren't inclined. You honestly have no other options?

I'm in NY and options are few and far between. Can get appt in under a month but I wanted be sure so did it very early. I still consider it a positive experience since oil seems been done correctly. Will wash car tomorrow and see if any damage. If that's ok, sadly it's a win.

Pretty sad that's where the bar is set for a "win"... but I hear you. Sometimes we just have to be ok with things being subpar and move on with life.

I thought my C8Z oil change was done fine. I had them put in 7 Quarts and I topped it up myself.

A year later I did the oil change myself. The steel oil drain plug has a recommended torque of 18#-ft. about what it would take to do it with a 1/4" ratchet. I started with a 3/8" ratchet and 12-point socket. The drain bolt didn't budge. Then a 1/2" ratchet with the 12-point socket, and with the amount of torque I had to put on it, the 12-point socket would not stay on the low profile bolt. I borrowed a 6-point socket from a neighbor and finally, using about 50#-ft. of torque was able to loosen and remove that steel drain plug (not the 1/4-turn plastic drain plug in the bottom of the dry sump tank). I went back to the service manage and complained. While I was at the parts department getting a replacement drain plug (I had used my "spare" one on that oil change as the rubber crush washer on the over-torqued bolt was significantly crushed), I found out that the drain bolt threads into an insert in the lower half of the two-piece block. Apparently Chevy designers expected service like this and made provisions using the insert, that the engine would not have to be pulled, disassembled and fixed without getting aluminum chips in the engine which has extremely close tolerances. Maybe using an easy-out and helicoil would have worked if the lower block got stripped, but I would not want that type repair on my expensive LT6 engine. Fortunately I didn't have to be the test case on that.

OP, sorry you have no good alternatives to that service dealer.

You experienced what I am trying very hard to avoid!! I have a Red Mist 2025 ZO6 with 3k on it so far.
I did a July 2025 Museum delivery for two reasons, 1. a fun experience (it was great) and 2. NOBODY touching my Baby who did not have the proper attitude and brain power to do so.
I live in NE Michigan and The U.P. (the Soo) and am looking(praying) to find a qualified competent Dealer to do the 7500 service and oil changes.
I will be doing the oil changes myself in the future but still seek a competent source for any other potential future issues.
Willing to travel to get it done, I have a great car to drive!!
Thanks for any comments/suggestions or recommendations.

My dealership is absolutely excellent. Guess I’m really lucky! One thing I always do before a service appointment, I stop at the local donut shop and pick up a dozen donuts and bring them for the techs. It’s my way of letting them know I appreciate their work. Maybe it makes a difference, for about $10, I feel it’s worth it. Certainly can’t hurt!

1. GM dealerships have always been sub-par, and seem to be getting worse.

2. why do so many not change their own oil? It's so simple.

I have done all my oil changes since I got behind the wheel at the age of 16 and will be doing all my oil changes for the New Toy also, butt, I have to have the 7500 mile service done and that I cannot do (I believe, and was told) without causing a Warranty issue. I like to do the service on my Toys as it is good to know about and keep up on all things mechanical. It is different doing it now because I wish to, rather than had to because of growing up with a lack of finances. A cold beverage and a little garage time is a good thing.

That is the problem with GM, they are now selling a 200K plus car & no one can do a proper oil change. Beyond my comprehension GM getting into a super car market with Chevy Spark service.

Changing the DCT filter at the 7500 mile time is not that hard. There are a lot of E-Torx bolts that have to come off, but that is not a big deal. Care needs to be taken when you take out the 5mm bolts that hold the filter cap in place.

Just do full documentation that you did it. While I am usually not happy with my local dealer service, I did have them do the 7500 mile service and oil/filter change as it was a freebee. They found the DCT pan gasket leaking and repaired it under warranty.

They did screw up and way over tightened the engine oil drain plug, 18 #-ft torque spec but it took me ~50 #-ft to get it off when I did the next engine oil change. I will do the DCT oil change when it is due on my car., three years from the date they did the DCT pan gasket repair.

My 2,500 mile DIY engine oil/filter and trans filter change was an exercise in perfection. The thought of allowing a dealer to touch my car is beyond frightening. As Corvettes have become more and more technologically sophisticated, the competency gap has widened considerably. Add to that that most (not all) dealer personnel are devoid of pride in workmanship and just don’t give a hoot. The end result is predictably unsettling.

If you live in a place where it almost never rains, direction tires are swappable side-to-side.
If you live in a place where it rains often, directional tires are swappable if you drive with caution.

If you live in a place where it rains and you are a complete ham-fisted driving fool, then directional tires are NOT swappable.

Mps4s tires are not directional and owners manual clearly states need rotate tires but the only c8 tech in suburban NYC didn't know that. How is that even possible?

This.. forget the oil change. The fact GM is in this price point now and can't match any level of service you get from other manufacturers that are in the same price point(s). It's a bit disappointing.

I would've been ****ing furious if my SD card was missing and would have went straight back in there to the GM/owner. They took it out because there was something on it they don't want you to see.

It's a LOT disappointing. There had been rumors floating around a year or so ago about GM opening up Corvette service centers-did nothing ever come of that?
