Default What's the catch?

Couple months ago I purchased a 2023 3LZ with 8k miles for $119k. Sticker was $172k (granted, 5k of that was for a custom vin option lol...but it's fully loaded with carbon z07, etc).
I just took off the CF wheels, swapped them with OEM gloss black ones (got for $2k on ebay) and sold the CF wheels for $15k on Ebay.
After fees, that nets me $13.6k ($11.6k when subtracting the $2k for the new wheels)

So, I effectively got the car for $107,400 after the net proceeds of selling the CF wheels and buying new ones.
Did I just get a good deal and got lucky, or why aren't more people jumping on the CF wheel specced cars and doing the same thing? Since I can't find anything close to my spec in the 107k range.

I did. I just have yet to buy wheels to replace them and sell off the CF ones. I'm not content to just slap some OEM alloys on it.

Welcome, and enjoy the car! Hopefully you live where you don't have to park it for the next few months.

I have no interest in the carbon wheels, but if I came across a deal like that I would be very tempted. Only real concern would be selling the wheels as I'm not sure how big the used market for them is.

Thanks brother, yeah this is the one time of the year I'm thankful to be in south Texas haha.
If you sell them, definitely try to make a post on ebay. I had them listed a few days here for $11k and no one nabbed, but they sold pretty quick for -$15k there.

Yeah that was my concern too since this was my plan going into it, but surprisingly only took a couple days for them to sell on ebay. (Listed for 17k, got an offer of 15k and accepted)

I am curious how the steering feels with non-CF wheels on the car since the car's steering is calibrated for the CF wheels( different calibration for the heavier non-CF factory wheels).

I drive it pretty hard (on the street), and don't notice any difference.
Maybe if you track it at the same location hundreds of times and then do the swap, you'd isolate enough variables to tell a difference

I would have purchased a custom set of magnesium wheels with proper offsets that were lighter than the original carbon fiber wheels without all the worries.

I thought the wheel lugs were longer for CF wheels and too long for non-CF wheels? That's a damn good deal you got. 1st owner took a major hit on that one.

They are longer. That's what open-ended lugs are for. Alternate option is to have the alloy wheels manufactured to compensate for the longer studs; it's a solid option, but it does restrict what they could be used on in the future.

They are. That is why I asked for a side picture to see what it looked like as I cant see it from the picture above. You have to have open ended lug nuts. The wheels dont seem to have open ended lug nuts are far as I can tell from the pic.

Markup on the 172k MSRP? If that's what you mean, I was wondering the same thing.
It's an early 2023 so I'd say 99% chance he paid a hefty markup close to 200 or over, and then eventually sold it to the dealer I bought it from just 2 years later for less than 119k (cause thats what I bought it at).

I'm not a wheel expert but magnesium sounds pretty expensive. I basically just went with the cheapest option I could find, I'm not too big on fitments and stuff, personally the OEM base ones look good to me.

That's what they said at discount tire when they swapped them, but they look just fine. I'll post a pic later if I remember.
Regarding the first owner, yeah I imagine he paid close to 200 potentially more with early 2023 markups, and sold it to dealer for 110-115 just 2 years later (given that I paid 119).

I think most don't do it because many don't believe the market is that strong for selling the CF wheels.

Not shocked you got 15K for them. But at the same time I think that is very small pool at any giving time looking to spend that much on CF wheels. You can get a quality set of Magnesium wheels for less without all the CF worries.

Also think you got a pretty solid deal on the car. A car with those options probably on average is selling closer in in the 128K to 132K area.

Overall, solid deal on the car in the end and think cars like yours will probably end up settling around that 90K to 100K mark on average and that is about it. Newer models continue to climb in base price and once this engine is retired in a few more years I think that is when you'll see sliding values more or less stop on this generation for well kept cars with lower mileage. I can easily see the C9 Generation Stingrays starting at 80K to 90K+ depending on trim and few options many will be over 100K. C9 Z06's will easily be starting in that 140K to 155K range with many builds coming in 170K to 185K and run up into the 200's on heavily option cars. Who'd think in 2025 basically the average new car is 50K nationwide now. Stingray is a hell of car for the money in comparison.

Something looks off there. Like to make up for the longer studs, they put some regular nuts (or open ended lug nuts) on to attach the wheel, then put regular lug nuts on top of that to cover up the extra stud length. I could be wrong, but the lug nuts just stick out further than I remember mine sticking out, and there looks to be something else between them and the wheel.

No you paid 119k plus tax and fees (approximately 10k), and 2k for wheels. So you are riding in a 3 year old car for 132k that is out or soon to be out of bumper to bumper warranty.

You parted off the spec of the car to try to get some of you money back.

Two things:
1- absolutely horrible deal seeing the car spec is now ruined and parted off, factor in the car is out of bumper to bumper warranty or close to it.
2- you are riding around in a 3LZ Z06 at a discounted price.

Which is it? Only you can decide. Explain your story to two different guys and each one will come up with either of the two things I posted.
