I would guess early z06 mule before they had the revamped exhaust in any sort of production ready status.

I don't think it's uncommon even after a reveal to keep putting miles on a camo'd mule.

In Colorado I saw C classes being tested after they'd been revealed.

It would be interesting to know how many miles they have racked up on these older mules.

Mules routinely hit the 200k+ mile mark from what I've heard over the years being in the business. GM is very serious about their 300k mile cert on their cars.

That's impressive and very respectable.

Yet they still couldn't identify the over-heating issues with the C7 Z06.

The blowers calculated adiabatic efficiency number was incorrect for the aftercooler's heat soak calculations because the blower had to work too hard to deliver the desired volume.
If the Z06 had the ZR1 blower from the beginning to deliver the 650hp then it would never have even been a thing.

If you look at the adiabatic efficiency curve of MOST positive displacement blowers, its typically better to over size them and spin them slower than under size them and spin them faster.
But there are drawbacks to over sizing as well, and abruptness and throttle response are two of them. The engineers are trying to balance smooth drive ability with peak output.

And surprisingly none of the C7 GSs or Z06 mules had cracked/bent wheels. None of the C8 Stingray mules had DCT issues, etc.

In the end, its still a small sample size of cars they push to 300,000, so a problem may not arise, or it may not be recognized that it's systemic, rather than one-off. My guess is that a lot of the vendors are also carefully watching their first articles for quality; their inspection & testing may be higher than used during production.

Nobody mentioned the 275/30-20 Michelin Pilot All Season ZP tires on the front (C8 Z06 size).

You make it sound like it was a simple miscalculation. How could this happen?

Certifying a car to run 300k miles when street driven is very different than the track certification they do. Besides how many times does it need to be said the c7 z was validated to 85 degrees not 100-110. They validate track performance much higher since then.

That was a cute jab though. You feel better now? 🙄

Yes, and apparently those are pre-production tires as Michelin does not currently offer that size in the current A/S ZP tires. It is interesting in that you cannot get a A/S tire on the C8 Z51 from the factory, but GM sees the need to have and A/S tire on the Z06 mule, but probably will not offer that as a factory option.

Stupid GM marketing. In our local Corvette club of 200+ members, most would be best served with a high performance A/S tire as only 3-4 of us do any real performance driving and while the roads here in the winter are mostly clear for driving, temperatures in the teens are common.
