Default windshield frame

I may have to do my windshield frame, at the very least the top and both corners, any guessimates of what I should expect to spend if I have someone do this for me? (it's a 1971)

Very rough guess, $500-1000.

The price of a good frame is $150-250 USD plus the windshield needs to be pulled and reinstalled. I have not successfully removed a corvette windshield in one piece(2 tries, first time I wasn't trying too hard not to break it).

VIN tag rivets are $25US you might need to pull the VIN tag and put it on the new one, depending on how bad the frame is. Then legality issues arise and most shops will start backing away from this.

I replaced the whole windshield frame and door pillars on my car and that was a tough job, a windshield frame isn't too bad if you have some welding skills and a weekend. Timewise you'd be looking at 8-10 hours labour, not including windshield removal and installation. At a shop rate of $75/hour, thats $750 right there.

Plus the fact that where there is one rust problem there are usually more lurking.... Good luck.

Rick, before I started my body-off restoration, I needed to replace my windsheild frame due to the very common rot that happens to them. My frame was badly rotted in the corners, especially bad in the bottom ones. Most people will tell you that the front clip needs to be removed to do this, but it doesn't. I decided to relace the windsheild frame before lifting the body so that no critical dimensions were altered due to separating the body and frame, the body is very flexible by itself. This job is not for the faint of heart, although just repairing the upper corners is a pretty straight forward job that I would have tackled myself. I took the car to Davies Custom Corvette in Toronto to do the job. How are these for some scary pictures:

Davies did an excellent job, they even manged to re & re the original windsheild without damage. the cost was ~$2000
