For those that didn't see my thread in Tech, I had a fairly stout 383 built for my 78 last winter. After spending all summer getting the car road worthy, I got around 300-500 KM on the motor before winter. I pulled the valve covers on Friday for locate a "tick" I hadduring the last 2 rides. I found 2 broken valve springs (and 2 corresponding bent valves) on the brand new Sportsman 2's. I now know why I could not get the engine running consistently.
I dropped them off at the shop tonight and he looked bewildered.... He said that it should never have happened. When he found out how little K's were on it, he started shaking his head. He said that this would be no cost to me, and he would supply everything to put it back together. I should find out tomorrow what his plan is ( get new springs from W.P. or get a different manufacturers' springs). He is making this as painless as possible ( he even wanted me to bring the car down to him so he could do the R&R of the heads) which nowadays is becoming less and less common.
If anybody is looking for a good engine builder in the London area, let me know. He was amazingly easy to deal with during the quoting, building and now repairing of the engine.
