Default Bought my first Snowmobile Today

The C5 is away until next spring, last weekend I went to the snowmobile show in "TO" and I put a deposit on a new snowmobile.
Today I went to the dealer and finalized the deal.
I have never been on a snowmobile, but then again I had never REALLY driven a Corvette before I bought my C5.
I don't want to sit on my a$$ all winter so I thought I would try something different. From what I saw last weekend the snowmobile community seems pretty special, I hope I meet as many good people as I have met on the Corvette Form.
Never thought I would say this, but let the snow fly, unti next April when the REAL fun can begin and the C5 comes out again.

Thanks for the congrats, Mo, Jim. I got a Ski Doo GSX 600. I was looking for a machine that would be easy to ride for a first time rider and also good on trails. The trail system in Ontario is amazing.
The scary thing is that this machine can do 100 MPH, don't think I will be doing that for a long time.
A bike next spring, you never know, might take away from some C5 time though.

I used to own one until it was stolen from my yard in Scarlem a few years back. Now we just rent one once a year for a few days, what a blast.
Just keep an eye out for these big bad boys out on the trails, sled vs Groomer, I don't like our chances

Welcome to the group of winter "go fast" enthusiasts. There is an '03 and an '05 Reneagde in my driveway, both 600's. That's a great motor. Lets get out for a ride, I'll get you to 100 in no time ... hehe. Seriously, check out snowmobileworld.com and ontarioconditions.com ... I'm at both of those sites with the user name MikeD.

dootalk is another good site, dedicated strictly to ski-doo brand.

Great choice of sled BTW ...

Thanks for the advise FFIN90 & 75Rag. I'll keep an eye out for those trail groomers.
I'll check out those sites Michael. Looking forward to meeting the snowmobile crowd, I've got a feeling that they will be a great bunch just like the CF guys.

I've been snowmobiling longer than I've had my vette.
You're going to love this sport.
I'm up on Georgian Bay. When the lake is frozen 100 mph just doesn't seem fast enough.
FFin90 is right, use caution on the trails.

Keep off the lakes?
I prefer the lakes, you can't go fast on the trails. The trails have a posted 50 km/h speed limit.

Snowmobiles only sink if you stop on water. I have friends who ride on the lakes 12 months of the year.

As this is your first sled, stick to the marked trails, some of these will be across frozen lakes, but you can bet the local clubs have checked the ice thickness and stability before they staked them. Ice can change quickly, and pressure cracks are a brutal at speed, make sure the way is clear before you check the top speed of your new ride ... In time you'll learn where you can and cannot go, seek the advice of some trustworthy locals, or ride with someone who know the area. Stay off the lakes at night and during snow storms ... it's easy to lose your way,

What area will you be riding in? I'll be around the Muskokas this year with a trip to New Liskeard or Cochrane in March. PM me here or catch me on the other sites I showed you.

This is good advice, especially the part about staying off the lake at night and during snowstorms.
I've neded up in some pretty scary situations like at night crossing a lake thinking you know where your going and the ice ends. Your on water and there is no ice in sight. Or crossing a large lake and a blizzard hits. Everything is white, you can't even tell which way is up or down, nevermind which way the shore is.
Marked trails are the way to go even on the ice.
I'm in the Midland, Honey Harbour area. If anyone is riding out this way send me a message.

I sold mine too. Talk about lucky. It sold in Dec during that week of cold. I think you'd have a hard time selling any sled now with the 14 day forecast calling for spring.

Where did you ride the red one?
Did you build it or buy it that fast?

That's what I need but it doesn't look that good in the bumps.

My Uncle and cousin who I ride with both have 120 mph sleds, I'm lucky to see 105.
