Default Unsure of shipping amount?

I ordered a nose emblem and cags disconnect from ZIP. The total was 57.00 US. Now I recieved an email saying it was shipped UPS Canada ground for a total of 54.00 US. In the end these will cost $130.00 CAN. Can this be right and where else could I order next time?

UPS is a total rip off. They are expensive to ship in the first place and then there are the brokerage fees. Hopefully they are already included in the second charge....if not, you will be hit with that as well when the package arrives. Costly lesson to learn I guess....Let's just say I have done the same thing as well that's how I know.

Next time find a vendor or seller that will ship US Postal Service. It takes longer but its also cheaper in the long run.

Good luck!

They said the brokerage fees were included. I was surprised when I contacted them concerning the matter. They weren't very friendly. So much for return business. If I treated my customers that way I would be out of business.

All the major corvette vendors use UPS. You have the exchange rate you have to consider. Then you get hit by UPS brockerage fees, which is a ridiculous amount. On top of it then you have your taxes. So when it looks good with just the basic US amount it always translates into a shocking surprise at the end.
I just got a wheel and tire package from an American wheel vendor. From the initial $1300 USD, I ended up paying over $1800 CAN!!!

Never let a vendor ship anything light via UPS ground to Canada. The brokerage fee is not included in the cost, and is usually around $45. UPS 2-day or faster includes the brokerage fee. I always ask for USPS (postal parcel) insured shipping. Good vendors or individuals understand the rip-off, and will ship via the postal service.

I just had a top for my vette shipped from California to Niagara Falls, NY for $70 US and that was no small package. It was shipped via UPS however and this is important, I had it shipped to Niagara Falls, NY to avoid huge brokerage fees.

Thanks to advice from Mo & Mike (4GTABODT & Cdn ZR1 Mike) I had it shipped to CBI which is a shipment receiver depot for a majority of shipping/courier companies - UPS, FedEx, etc. and they only charged me $11.35 to "handle" the goods.

They are located 5 minutes from the Rainbow Bridge - easy to get to.

I did have to pay duty however you pay that anyway on purchases crossing the border whether on your person or via courier.

I have been using CBI since 1990 and never have had a problem.

I think you can dispute the custom brokerage.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Another option is a PO box depending on how often you plan to order stuff. I rented one from a UPS store for 8 months and I think it was about $80. If your packages don't fit in your box (like...NEVER) they'll set them aside and you can pick them up whenever you want.

Also, Never ever goto pick-up a parcel from UPS. I waited 3 hours once at the Jane & steels building to hear they couldn't find it because it was somewhere in thier sorting system. Some system if you can't find what you need after 3 hours.

And horrible customer service, rude employees, don't tell the customer the parcel can be picked up if it can't.

I just got my Vararam and to avoid the duties I told the vendor to put warranty replacement on the box.

I ordered a $25.00 C5 charm for my wifes charm bracelet from the NCM & specified shipping by USPS. They shipped it UPS & my "brokerage" fee was $27.00.Never again!! The charm was less than a dime in size, the box it came in would have held a C5 brake rotor disc.Lesson learned

I work for Fed Ex Ground, most people use us for international shipping. It seems to be reasonable for pricing so I'm told.

When I spoke with zip concerning the matter, they told me ups was the only way they would ship parts. When I said I would look elsewhere next time, they said ok.

Default Ups

To begin with I buy way to many things from the US for my Vette.

If its from a Vendor, ouch bend over on Charges, UPS is a bunch of Crook-- Even my UPS Driver said He would never use them and they have court cases all the time against them(his quote) Beleive it or not I am really Happy with US post very very reasonable I try and deter anyone I buy from to use UPS even if it takes a few days more..

Living in Toronto or west of I would surely ship it to Niagara Falls.

Just a note Fort-Lauderdale is 78 degress and Sunny Lots of Beach secenery....

When I buy through ebay, it has to be shipped USPS or I don't bid.

I just bought $1700 from a US vendor, it will be shipped to my door with UPS. I talked to UPS and was assured there will be only one brokerage fee for the entire shipment, no matter how many boxes. I am leery about trusting them on this.

I bought bumpers from the same vendor, got charged $130 US for shipping from Ohio to Washington. I was told Fed Ex would not ship across the border with ground service. It was a pain to get them to hold for pickup at the Fed Ex depot. My dad brought them across the border and shipped them 1300 km to me on the bus for $48.

I don't know the answer, try to get shipped USPS for as much small stuff as you can.

I used them for the first time 2 weeks ago and it was too good to be true what a great way to order stuff for the car. I highly recommend CBI. Besides the facgt you see allot of forum vendors that offer free shipping in the continental US and this method allows you to take advantage of these offers.

Default Corvette Central

I just had a decent shipping experience with Corvette Central so I thought I'd share. Seems they have made an arrangement for Canadian customers whereby they collect the taxes and duty and include it on your invoice so no surprises from the UPS-bandits. Here's how it broke down...

Item: $79.95
GST: $4.80
PST: $6.78
Duty: nil
Shipping: $17.62
Total: $109.15USD
