I know this is a tech question but----Many of youse (thanx Corrado!!) have had C4's before---my problem is I am on my 3rd starter this year---Vader89 has suggested moving to a newer smaller starter--but others have bought some other trick racing starter?? We will try and put a shield over this one to disapate the heat a little---have any of you guys had similar problems?? Also my oil sender unit (by distributor) --they don't make them anymore?? strange
Thanx

As far as the starter goes, we had similar problems with a hot rod Trans Am we built with my youngest boy a few years ago, the heat was chewing up starters like crazy. The standard duty starters couldn't handle it at all, and we had a hard time finding something that would last. As an interm fix, we retarded the timing a bit to helpt the emgine run cooler, and eventually went to a small high torque starter for racing applications, it lasted for a while then it too failed to work. So, we had a standard starter rebuilt by a reputable rebuilder, and explained the problems, he used HD internals during the rebuild, and it worked fine after that. We even did more mods and generated more heat without any further failures. Most knowledgeable rebuilders can solve the problem with a heavy duty rebuild from what I've been told.
we also have a heavily modded '88 Camaro, with a standard starter that's had a heavy duty rebuild, and it's held up for a few years of some pretty hard abuse....

I've never had a problem with mine. Have yours just been failing on you?

Have you tried wrapping your exhaust manifolds? The heat in them from the giggle gas is probably whats killing the life span of your starters.

Thanx guys--all good solid advice---we have fabbed up a SS starter cover to shield the soleniod from the heat---we shall try that---but 3 starters-$$$$$$--It would have been cheaper to run a pneumatic starter off my air horn compressor!!!!
