Hello,
I have bought a 2007 Z06 and am having it delivered to the SweetGrass/Alberta border on the US side. I know I can get a transit permit from the Canadian side, do I need one on the US side if the car is being delivered there? Can I just drive it to the official crossing point, then get the CDN permit on this side?
My best guess is you would need a US tag to "drive" it into Canada. I would say you should arrange a Cdn tow truck to go over and get it for you at the border. You do know the basic rules as per the RIV right? Like the title must arrive at the border 72 hours before the car crosses for example?

Hi, thanks for the tips. Yes I am aware of the documentation requirements etc. I just wasnt sure on the technicality of driving to the border crossing from, well, the border crossing. I did get a hold of US customs in Sweetgrass and they said nobody would bother me so I will wing it to the CDN side.
I was just going to say, I have come through Sweetgrass around 5 times with cars I was importing into Canada, NOT ONCE did the US side, look for registration plates or documents that proved and type of US registration etc.

I noticed that all border crossings say a person must have all original documents at the border. That is not always the case then?
If you have a temp permit; why not apply it at the point of pick up ?
He only has a temp permit that allows him to travel from point "A", the Canadian side of the border to point "B" his house. Theoretically he needs a "transit permit" to drive in the US. But because the car is getting dropped off virtually right at the border, he can just go in and do his business and apply his Provincial permit on the Canadian side.

thanks again for all the help racer!
Yes, and that means, for the US side, title, bill of sale and lots of borders really like to see the original of the worksheet that you faxed them (lot's of people know nothing about the worksheet, and lot's of places don't ask for one, but I always send one in).

I did send in the Worksheet with my title etc on Monday. I am not sure on this but it looks like there is a "green levy" on this car for about $2k based on its fuel consumpn rating?? This is the first Ihave heard of it. Will I have to pay it and if so that really sucks. Where will I pay for that? at the border?

I called a few registries here and all gave different answers. One said I could purchase a 30 day? permit right at the border, another said I could buy one in Calgary at their location but it only good for a day or 2.
If they do supply them at the border, can they be purchased 24/7? I may be picking up the car in the evening on Saturday or Sunday.

Green levy ONLY if put into service AFTER MAR19/07
If you have AMA, just tell them you want a Transit permit to bring from Border to your home. I think it is around $24. Any registry should know this. AMA's is good for 7 days. but it doesn't mean you can get home in one day and drive around for the other 6.
Also, the border does not issue transit permits, someone is telling you waco stories.
