Tried it, didn't like it. Found to be very harsh, no suds and really bad for leaving a reside even with rinsing well...i would say good to strip the wax off your car...

I use either Eagle One or Meguiers - lots of suds, rinses really well.

PS..both leave my hands really soft too

I also bought it once on sale but haven't used it yet. If it's like Lauri says then it's good enough for my DD.

I've used it on my cars. For the price, can't complain.

PS. I don't care about the softness of my hands, as long as wife's are soft

Sorry I stand corrected, simple green was not the one I purchased. I did however see the same wheel dollies (bottom photo) as what Princess Auto usually has on sale but I've heard mixed reviews about them. Oh ya that sale doesn't start yet....see bottom page.

The Simple Green stuff at CT is usually a concentrate, so use it according to directions or you'll strip off any LSP on your car. Otherwise is an ok soap, neither here nor there really.

Do you have a specific product that you would recommend?
I've seen your work posted here and it is very impressive!
I've made another post about an issue with dead bugs eating into my clear coat, your comments on that would be greatly appreciated.

As long as a car soap is ph balanced (or better yet, neutral) and provides good lubricity, it's ok by me. Meguiars Deep Crystal is a good over the counter soap. If you want to delve into the online boutique-y type stuff Chemical Guys Citrus Wash & Gloss is my personally choice. As I mentioned above the most important part is to use the recommended dilution. I see a lot of guys dump half a gallon of soap in their bucket which equals instant wax strippage.

I'll check out your other thread.

I already use the Meguiars soap, glad to hear it meets your approval.

Several of the Simple Green products contain 2-Butoxyethanol (2-BE)
as the active ingredient. Also known as “Butyl Cellosolve,” “ethylene
glycol monobutyl ether,”or “EB” for short.

2-BE is also used by several other packagers of degreasers. The
principal difference between them is the percentage of 2-BE in the
fluid volume - more or less is added, according to the intended usage
for a particular product.

If Simple Green Car Wash has 2-BE in it, then users should be aware
of what they are working with and take appropriate measures to
protect themselves and others, along with their property.

Results for CAS #111-76-2 (2-Butoxyethanol)
  • Routes of Exposure:
Inhalation, skin absorption, ingestion, skin or eye contact
  • Symptoms of exposure:
It is toxic by skin absorption and may be narcotic if ingested. Irritating
to eyes, skin, nose, throat; Cough, nausea, drowsiness, headache,
redness of eyes, eye pain, blurred vision, abdominal pain, diarrhea,
    vomiting, CNS depression, hemolysis, hemoglobinuria.
  • Target organs:
Eyes, skin, respiratory system, central nervous system, hematopoietic
system, blood, kidneys, liver, lymphoid system
  • Effects of short-term exposure:
Irritates the eyes, skin and respiratory tract. Can depress the central
nervous system and cause liver and kidney damage.
  • Effects of long-term exposure:
Exposure may result in blood disorders.
  • Special Warnings:
    Prevent generation of mists!
That last point is usually of interest because it is not uncommon for
people to buy 2-BE in or transfer it to bottles with an atomizer/sprayer.

Chemical Substances of Interest to Canadians: 2-Butoxyethanol

www.valdezlink.com
"One study of 12 exposure experiments with 5 men investigated
percutaneous absorption of this glycol ether and concluded that
"persons exposing large portions of their skin to butoxyethanol are at
risk of absorbing acutely toxic doses"(Johanson et al. 1988). In the
second, the influence of water on percutaneous absorption of
2-butoxyethanol was observed in guinea pigs (Johanson and Fernstrom
1988) The results of this study concluded that "water facilitates the
percutaneous absorption of butoxyethanol."
Pros & Cons for using Simple Green on Aluminum & other materials
If concentrated products containing 2-BE are used directly as supplied
without being diluted first, then the effective percentage of 2-BE that
the person is exposed to goes up commensurately.

Disregard everything above if Simple Green Car Wash contains no 2-BE.
(Unless, that is, you also happen to be using some other product that
DOES contain 2-BE.)
