I'm looking at buying GMPP extended warranty before my new car warranty expires and heard that dealers may negotiate the price. Has anyone had experience here, and what dealerships within the GTA / KW area cut the best deals. Also, have there been many issues with the earlier C6s (I have a 2006 coupe). Your suggestions and opinions would be appreciated.

My 05 warrenty expired last June. I was in the same position, but since I've had the car since new and only have 15K on her I decided to put the money into mods instead of extending the warrenty. Based on the millage annually I figured I'd take the risk. My 2006 DD now has 100 K on it and have not had anything other than oil changes done.

IMHO I wouldn't bother with the extended warrenty unless you bought your car used or will be putting a lot of miles on it.

Just remember that if you buy extended warranty after initial purchase of a new car you lose the 0 deductible option...and also these warranties vary big time in $ between dealers. So shop around...ANY dealer can sell you extended.......

All I will tell you is that I am SO glad I bought the
GMPP. Ya I've shelled out a couple hundred for the
deductable, it's been worth it.
All it takes is one LITTLE thing and you'll be glad you did. I had an actuator in the HVAC way down in the dash the need replaced. The tab was up over 3gs!.
Now I see my steering box is leaking.. Took it into my regular mechanic,, he took one look and said,, he's glad I bought the warranty.
So ya one repair on a Corvette can easily cost what the
GMPP is worth.

I went through the same thing as you,,
should I,,shouldn't I?

Your call,,,,,

I bought my GMPP just prior to the expiration of the standard warranty, got 0 dedcutable, and 3 more years, $800.00 off list price, and then my tranny went just at the end of the extended, so it was a good buy for me...

Really? I was adamently told that the zero deductible was ONLy offered if warranty added at time of new vehicle purchase. They also showed me the GMPP computer printout screens and that option was'nt availalbe I assume you added the warranty at a CND dealership and NOT done by a US owner if you imported the car (I know in the US 0 deductible was offered)........

Yep! Really!! I bought my car in the U.S., and had the warranty put on here, about 1 1/2 years after I bought it, prior to the expiration of the base warranty....as I recall, I paid about 2 g's with taxes and the list price was 2800 ish....got a total of 6 years, 180,000 km no deductable... it ran out time wise before I reached the mileage though,... trans went about a week or so after the expiration date but it got covered under "policy"...but there is a long story to that though..... car is an '02 btw....

I’m glad I got the GMPP, the EBCM computer fried about 1 month after I picked up my car, the bill was $1,500 (with labour). So it almost paid for the warranty, anything else goes wrong with the car and I’ll be “ahead”. And since it was within the first month the dealership covered the deductible.

I'm pretty biased I guess. I wouldn't pay $2k plus for an extended warranty. I fix my own cars unless I absolutely can't.

I've never been very impressed with any mechanics work after seeing the results and thinking I could have done a better job. My last example - the poorly routed brake line on my S-10 I paid about $250 to get installed because I needed it done for the next day while I was at work. It wasn't even installed back into the factory clips along the frame. This kind of stuff just makes me really not want to give them my hard earned money directly or indirectly through a warranty.

Best money I've ever spent on my '05 vette. When I was buying the plan I emailed 20 dealers across the country and was able to the warranty for $1450 + GST from a Calgary dealer. My local dealer in Oakville wanted 2100 + GST/PST and that was him quote "giving me a break" as a regular customer!

You're right HUGE differences from various dealers. Shopping is key and does'nt matter which dealers sell it....any will honor it..........

If GM actually cared about their Quality...there would be no need for extended warranty.

You also have to factor in what the warranty covers. The only personal experience I have had is with Chrysler and they had several different extended warranties (they didn't tell me at the time and they don't really go into detail and would never give me a list of the parts actually covered.) Anyway to make a long story short half of the time I went in with something wrong they would tell me it wasn't covered under my warranty. So make sure you understand what is being covered under your extended warranty, allot bs out there

Hmmm, so Nascar, IRL, NHRA and Formula 1 etc do not care about the quality of their parts and pieces??? They have tons of breakage and malfunctions. Sh*t happens even to the best made parts and pieces etc.

I am going through this right now with my 07 Escalade EXT. The dealership I deal with mostly has a new warranty provider/agency they are introducing. They are called First Canadian, The thing with their warranty versus GMPP is, if you get a 24 month warranty it applies to 24 months after your warranty expires, not like GMPP's which starts from your in service date. Also, if you do not make a claim (only on the 48 month contract) you get around $2000+ back. 48 month policies vary from $2000 up to $3080 if you want 160,000 kms or even more if you want 180,000 kms. They still are somewhat similar, NONE offer $0 deductible. $100 or $200 only. Will find out a bit more tonight or tommorrow before deciding which one is best. Since my caddy has 5 year 160,000 km powertrain warranty anyways, I think I am just covering all the rest of the "could go wrong" things. Is it worth it?? Since this truck has every doodad you can get , I think it is, it's a gamble like everything else in life.

Mosport1,

I just read this thread and was wondering if you could help with some info.

I just bought an '05 and purchased the GMPP Select extended warranty. 1 week later I realize my Hvac is not functioning and I took it in for repair. Like with your Vette, the diagnosis was a couple of actuators, they said 5 actually, needed replacing. They called it in to gmpp but the repair was denied. Gmpp said those parts are not covered in my $3100.00 warranty!

The dealer tried several different repair codes but all came back as a no.

You posted that gmpp covered this in your case? Can you help me with some info? Do you have the repair code that was submitted by the dealer to get this approved?

Hard to beleive that I am being told to go without AC or heating when the warranty covers other things like window motors, power seats, Radio/nav etc.

Barry
