I went to Thornhill Tint today. After review they advised against tinting the rear due to the dot matrix. Impossible to prevent bubbling around the dots, they didn't want to do it for me and have it look bad.
Mike, or VetFever Jack, can you advise more detail on this 'painting' of the rear window dot matrix area - who did it for you and did it work out well ?

Jack painted his, mine is not done and you can see it on Sunday if you want...It doesn't bother me to be honest and not really noticeable. Jack actually spray painted the rear glass portion which when I am ambitious enough I can still do... LOL...

I did it myslef and it turned out really nice. I masked off the area around the matrix dots and spary painted it with a black primer and then a satin black paint. We are talking about painting the inside of the glass of course. I made sure the glass was perfectly clean first. It took about 8 coats to make it 100% opaque which is easy to check because you just keep looking through the glass to see if any light comes thru.

My car is laid up right now (most current mod ) but will be available in the next week or so if you want to see the results.

I will be going on the June 19th Keswick cruise if anyone wants to have a look then as well.

You can PM me your phone number if you want me to call to discuss....

The technique described in the link is fine for when the dots are a fairly narrow strip (1" or less) at the edge of the glass as you will see on many cars, but on Vettes ( at least on the upper hatch of the C6 ) the dots area is very wide - about 3 to 4 inches - that I think the glue would make more of a mess. Of course I haven't tried it, but I can say the painting was dead easy and the results are very good to excellent...
