How old must the car be before you are E Test exempt?

87 and earlier now. Was 20 yrs but they changed it and now everything 88 and up gets tested forever. Unless you live up north and then you're exempt.

They do the normal test every other car goes through and yours must meet the gov mandated emissions level for your year, not sure about a visual inspection I presume they just put it on the rollers and it passes or fails

if the car wont go up on the rollers from being too low they will just do a 2-speed idle test. Thats what I had to do.

I have a 90 turbo Miata that I just dread bringing in for the test! Usually fails, and I got to bring it home and muck with it to get it to pass..............;>(
