I should have went with the Z51 and didn't but that's 3 years ago and my 2008 coupe has changed considerably...Vararam, Billy Boats and LG long tubes.
It's not so much for the extra stopping power...the rotars are just too small. I track the car 5-6 times a year and that's about it so I'm not looking to spend thousands on a full break upgrade.
Does a simple upgrade to the Z51 breaks with ceramic bads make sense or should I really spend the extra for a bigger set.
Do you have brake ducts installed? They will help your brakes last longer. Honestly I researched this and decided it was cheaper to stay with stock rotors and just replace them once or twice a year. Plus I went with a fairly agressive Carbo Tech pad and have good stopping power. Since you don't have the Z51 set up, you have more options for rotors at a decent price.
If your wheels will allow it, upgrade to a used Z06 set up, that will make a difference without braking the bank.
Here's a thought! Buy a used z51 suspension package and a Eradi Speed brake kit for a Z51 package. Why? Because you won't have to change you're stock rims and the Eradi Speed upgrade brake package will give you better braking [ and looks great - really fills out the rims] at a fraction of the cost.
Now, I have to give you some back ground on my statement. I have an 09 C6 AT, with both the Z51 package [from the factory - original equipment] and the upgraded Eradi Speed brake kit. I'm upgrading to the C6Z system, Pfadt and LG suspension set-up at the end of this month. Hence, I will have available for sale, if your interested, the sways for the Z51, the Eradi Speed brake kit and a set of Bilstein shocks [2 used and 2 new].

If you are worried about your brakes breaking then you definately upgrade your brakes before they break, cause once they are broken you won't be able to use your brakes.
