Default Stabil....

So, Going to pick my car up tomorrow night from storage.

Do I use the tank of gas that's got Stabil in it - or drain it, and re-fuel?

I'd read spots that suggest both, but neither with any real good scientific support.

It would seem the logical point of the Stabil is to stabilize the fuel - I don't wanna waste a 70$ tank of gas, but don't wanna wreck a pefectly working motor.

Thoughts?

The product is designed to keep the fuel from having water seperation ... so the fuel should be good ... just think of it as another additive that PETCAN would put in their gas.

I would take it for a long spin, time permitting, rather than draining the fuel.

Drive it, I've done this for the past 4 years and no ill effects. Don't waste the fuel.

Default Half 'n Half

Draining/siphoning is too much work, probably unnecessary too.

A nice gentle drive using up about half a tankful should get everything back into moving order again. Then, fill'er up with the good stuff so you'll get at least a half tank of fresh gas to mix up with the old stuff.

Glad nobody's made comments that will jinx the GTA weather yet...
.. (Oops or did I just??)

Good plan - and thankfully I won't be impacted by the brutal GTA weather... Just the lovely lake effect snow coming next Monday... Just need to get her outta the barn & back into my new garage

Thanks for the help folks!

I use Stabil every year and do this. I usually drive to under a half tank then refill and go from there.

Stabil is made to preserve your gas and keep it from going stale and causing engine damage. Can't for the life of me think (unless we're talking years old) why anyone would toss a tank of perfectly good fuel which is what the stabil accomplished.

If you forgot the stabil, syphon it out and use it for your lawn mower...

Tim, just drive it for a bit, then put fresh gas in it, and repeat. Ive been parking vehicles and equipment for the winter for years, and have never had a problem.

I wouldn't run it very hard with that fuel in it. You should drive it slowly to my house and I'll siphon it all out of the tank for you and put it in my truck. I'll put in a gallon of new 94 to get you to the station too.

Seriously though I would drive it until you're down a bit and then top it up with new fuel to slowly dilute the stabil treated fuel. That's all I do.
