E-test changes
Any one else hear about the changes coming in 2013?.
No more going on the rollers, I think it is just an idle test for 88-98 and obd test for later models.

on board diagnostics, they plug you in, and if you have no codes, you pass, at least that is my interpetation, nothing written about it yet.

thanks for clarifying, this would be good, and hopefully they would reduce the price for just having to connect to the car's computer
the shops that bought the expensive testing equipment won't be too happy though...

Still poses a problem for the highly modified folks. Having a car with no codes is simple-that's the easy part. But what happens if you get pulled over by the "roadside sniffer police"?
If you fail that-then you have some explaining to do.
The old way worked well for me-go in, fail, pay my $150 diagnostic fee and I'm good for 2 years. Sniffer police won't bother you because you failed in the first place.
If the new way works similar it should be fine.

Vettes don't need to be tested on rollers anyway so the change doesn't matter.

Hmm, I bet it's more than just codes. You'll likely have to pass those different system tests too. Could be an issue for some people. I expect it would be hard to have the on-board secondary air injection system test when you don't have an air pump anymore for example. Hearing this was coming was part of the reason I left the air system in there when I did the headers last winter.
Oh well, the old S10 I had passed 3 times with the CEL on.
