Hey guys! Just wondered if anyone else is having an issues with their dash cams?
Mine "looks" to be functioning fine and normal, but despite it recording on start up like it should and indicating that it is physically recording, it only seems to capture the last couple minutes of my trip. Every time I check the memory card, only the last 2 or 3 minutes is on there for some reason.
The camera worked perfectly for the first few weeks, but the last 2 weeks or so have been a problem. Always only 1 file on the card and only 2-3 minutes of video.
Any idea if it's a camera problem or maybe even a card problem?
I've got 2 of the dash cam's from kingdady and they are working fine. I use 1 everyday in my vette and it's always on. Driving to and from work it records about 3-4 hours worth of video. I have it set to record in 5 min incrememtns at SXGA mode and get about 11 files on a 4GB SD card. 2 min increments at vga gets me about 30 files on the same 4GB card.
The other cam I use sparingly when I'm in my Durango. Same setup as above but it gets used once or maybe twice a week at about an hour at a time.

Don't know too much about the theory on how memory cards work, but would formatting a card be necessary if that same card worked fine prior?
Rob, it's not usual if it has worked before, but it is possible something got corrupted.
Formatting the card again, done via the camara is a good suggestion, IMO.
Then just try recording again.
I dont have one of those cameras but am familiar with using SD cards.

Cool. Thanks Jeff. I'll give that a go and hope for the best!
I usually reformat at the end of every trip if there was no reason to keep the old videos. Only reason I am using a 32 gb card is that I had a couple of them lying around. If I had to buy one, I'd stick with an 8 gb as they are cheap and hold enough video before it starts recording over itself. They are pretty good especially for $45. I can see where many mid priced gps units will start incorporating cams as well.
Yup, any time you use a memory card in a different device:
You should empty out the card.
Format the card in the new device you are using, before using.
This is a common problem in photo & video cameras.
FYI, the first card I tried didn't work right. The camera kept hanging and not recording correctly. Formatting didn't help. It was a cheap no-name card. Another one worked fine.

No-Name memory cards & video = don't work somtimes.
You need the writing speed; & most no-name cards don't have it.
@Polar Jet If you want, when I am at the next HDR you can have my camera for a while just to double check. I rarely if ever use mine, somehow the quality of the lens I get is not good enough to record actual license plates. So recording an incident without being able to identify the license plate does not help me. Maybe I am doing something wrong
Can the 2 min setting not be change to 5 minutes per segment or 15 minutes per segment.
Set mine up some time ago and it records for 5 minutes as set. Then starts over with another 5 minutes. I end up with a whole bunch of 5 minute segamets unless I turn off the recording in which case I get as little as 1 second of recording.

Thanks for the offer. I greatly appreciate that, but reformatting the card did the trick. I learned something new thanks to the CF.
