Default Purchasing from the States.

I've had a couple cases where my order was rejected when purchasing online for delivery to a Niagara Falls NY address such as CBI. Recently I thought I was in the clear. I placed an order for $500.00 and while Fed Ex was in Niagara Falls NY, on the way for delivery, the vendor requested the order be sent back since they could not get the funds from PayPal. I don't understand this since PayPal always pays in U.S. funds so why the issue. I called the Vendor and they stated it wasn't a U.S. Paypal account with a U.S. address. I asked if I could pay with Visa, Amex etc. and they told me it needed to be a U.S. Credit Card with a U.S. Address. This has also happened with Overstock.com and a few other Vendors. I have the option of going through their international department, but I find it unfair that the pricing on the same order (still being delivered to a U.S. address) goes up by around 40% only because I don't live in the US.

Anyone overcome these obstacles before?

I have encountered this and unless the vendor agrees to accept an "international" PP payment you 're stuck.

When all else fails I guess you could mail them a money order??

They have no problems accepting my payment but it has to go through a broker which is there international order desk. As soon as that happens the amount goes up by 40%. On three orders of $500.00 that works out to about $600.00 more.

I can switch my Paypal account from Canadian funds to US funds with one click. But.. I also have a Paypal debit/credit card which they stopped issuing a few years ago. Can you not switch to US funds?

Thats messed up. I do alot of business with Americans, never a problem. The easiest is Paypal, yes they charge a fee, (and its not cheap) but they convert everything for you.

Yes I've had a PayPal account for 10 years and it's paired up with my chequing account. PayPal was denied as stated in my original post so that won't work, I tried changing the default PayPal address to a U.S. address and it was denied since it stated the U.S. address didn't match my Canadian chequing account so that didn't work. I can change my default shipping address in Ebay, but not PayPal due to a Canadian chequing account. Unless I'm not doing it correctly. PayPal always pays in U.S. funds, that's not the problem, the problem is they charge me more once they know I'm Canadian, it' has nothing to do with being paid in U.S. funds.

It's frustrating when some Dealers offer one price when it's being sold to a U.S. residence and being paid in U.S. funds and shipped to the U.S. address When I do the exact same thing, paying with PayPal, in U.S. funds and they shipped to a U.S. address but they find out I'm Canadian, they ask that I go through the internation section and the price is normally 40% higher even though I'm requesting it be shipped to CBI or a Niagara Falls NY, address, that makes no sense to me and that's what I'm trying to avoid. They told me the only way to not be charged the extra 40% is if I use a U.S. credit card or U.S. Paypal accound with a U.S. address. In other words, they want be to be American.

Any other suggestions?

These are most Dealers form of payment, Visa, Mastercard, Amex, PayPal, Discovery Card. I think a U.S. bank draft would indicate I may not be a U.S. residence since not many American's don't have access to a Credit Card or PayPal account.

Thanks for the suggestions KLUTZ.

I use Ebay and paypal which I have CBI and my home addresses input. You can switch from one to another. I also have an Ebay account with CBI's address and another with my home address.......this seems to cover all the bases for some US vendors.

You must be doing something wrong. I can select from my home address, to CBI to a couple of Hotels I've had things shipped to in the US, all under my PayPal account. Under profile I just selected 'add or edit' address. I purchase about a dozen items a year this way, never had a vendor refuse to ship an item.

Maybe I'm not explaining myself, there is no problems with my shipping address in my Ebay account, I can change it to any address I want including CBI. I've had maybe 500 items shipped to a Niagara Falls NY address. That is easy to do and not my problem. My problem is some Vendors, Dealers, Stores such as Overstock.com, Sprinkler Warehouse.com that have two different sections, one for Canadian Residence and the other for U.S. residence, both are being paid in U.S. funds. They don't care if the item never leaves the States, but the pricing structure is different whether I'm a Canadian or an Amercian. The difference is, once they know I'm Canadian, they want me to use the international section and will accept my Visa, Amex, PayPal, without question since they know they will be guaranteed to be paid in U.S. funds. My problem is if I pay with an U.S. Credit Card or U.S. Paypal account the items will be $500.00 total. including shipping taxes. If I don't have a U.S. credit card or a U.S. PayPal account with a U.S. address, then I have to pay $742.36 for the same items shipped to the same U.S. address, because I'm Canadian.

Now, I went to paypal to try and pretend I'm a U.S. resident by changing my address to a CBI, but was rejected because my TD Bank specifies that I don't live in the States and my address is different than what is registered with my Bank. It's easy to change the default Ebay address, but not my bank account address in PayPal. I called PayPal and they told me that my confirmed PayPal address has to match what's on file at my bank since I use a TD Canada Trust chequing account to pay for my PayPal purchases.

Sorry to keep repeating myself, but if I can change my Paypal confirmed chequing account address, not my Ebay address, then how do I do it since Paypal told me it can't be done? Or am I missing something, sorry for the frustration, but either I'm clueless or I don't know how to explain myself.

EDIT:

I just went to Paypal and I have 3 addresses,

1. Confirmed Canadian address that matches my TD bank chequing account
2. Alternate U.S. Address for shipping purposes
2. Another alternate U.S. address for shipping purposes.

I tried to delete my confirmed PayPal address so there is no Candian address in my Paypal account and it would default to one of my U.S. address and it stated, "you cannot remove your home confirmed address". I then tried to edit the address since I'm unable to delete it and there is no option to allow for a U.S. country, it won't allow me to change it to anywhere outside of Canada as there is no drop down Country option other then Canada. What am I missing?

The problem is that the vendor's bank won't process payment from a Canadian financial institution.

Do you have any relatives or friends in the US? Transfer them the money and have them pay the vendor. Still ship to CBI as you originally planned.

The OP says he uses TD Bank. TD has many branches in the US now. I would be calling TD to get any assistance as we're just tossing stuff out right now.

I'd say 80% of the time I don't have problems, but the last three dealers all rejected my order. It seems it's becoming more and more difficult. At the moment it was Sprinkler Warehouse I really wanted the order to go through and they rejected it twice.

No I don't have any relatives in the States, if I did I would PayPal them the amount and have them order it for me. But as mentioned I don't.

I've gone to the bank and the teller didn't know how to do it, they mentioned I'd have to open up an account in the States.

The reason I'm posting is I know it can be done, I just don't know how to do it and I need more info before going back into the bank if that's my only way.
