I never had to have it done because of where I live. However in the spirt of Liberal and NDP thinking I want to be compensated for work I never had done. Just send me a check, food stamps or even better an LCBO gift card. I am easy to please.

While I think it's a great decision, I'm still unhappy that you will have to go and get this done until April 1st. Imagine being the guy who has to get it done on March 31st? Talk about having to go through a bureaucratic exercise in futility. Why not just put an end to it pure and simple?

That's the ticket, Murray! Just channel your inner victimology. No grievance is too small and no slight can be forgiven. You're ready for political prime time.

I feel sorry for all she shops that spent $$$$ for the rollers and then $$$$ for new computer systems to replace the rollers.
Good bye emission testing. Thanks Dougie.

This is where I'm curious. My wife's birthday is April 10th and she's due for an emission test this time around, but am I going to have to wait until after April 1st to renew her sticker to avoid having to get the Drive Clean done? I'd rather renew her sticker online a month ahead of time than wait until the last week to do it.

When they scrapped having to pay the $30 for the E Test we got screwed there too, as we paid for that test the end of March that year and literally a day or two later they announced they were offering the tests for free starting April 1st. We felt like April Fools indeed!!

I never understood how those shops were going to be able to recoup those costs? It must have cost them $50,000 to $100,000 (or more?) for all that equipment, but yet I bet 95% of the $30 cost went to the government, not to the shop. Even if 100% of that $30 went to the shop they would still take forever to pay off the cost of the equipment before they started making a profit. This program was a disaster for just about everyone involved (except the government, as it's just another way they could dip into our pockets!!)

I hear you but, there will always be people who get caught before the cut off date, regardless of the date.
I remember the government subsidizing partial cost of equipment because they needed (Canadian Tire for example) to facilitate the testing.

But I'm starting to like Dougie!

1. Make politicians responsible for misuse of the budget, corruption, scams, or any other b.s. Not just any early retirement and an "Oh well"!

2. Cut out this b.s. emissions testing that was completely ridiculous and a well know money grab for a long time.

It's certainly not easy with council to make these changes that directly point the finger at them. Kudos Doug !

I am so glad he has gotten rid of this - both of my cars needed this done so I would end up wasting time as most places needed an appointment or had a line up.

I didn't say I was unhappy this time around, I just questioned whether or not I'm going to need to wait until after April 1st to renew her sticker in order to avoid having to get it tested.

As far as being unhappy the last time around when they stopped charging the $30 right after we paid for it, of course I was pissed! You would be too since there was no announcement ahead of time.

I'd just wait until after April 1st to renew online. You can print out the online receipt in case you get stopped before the stickers arrive.

I always thought it was odd that the government decided to pay for the tests themselves. I'm as cheap as the next guy, but this seemed to be one case where the consumers should be footing their own bill.
