Ontario 2019 licence renewal in March

You are able to disconnect the plate from the vehicle when its in storage and then when you reattach it you just pay for the remaining months for that year's term. The cost is getting higher doing it this way but since my birthday is in October and I don't usually get the summer vehicles out till May or June it saves a bit.

Sorry to chime in so late. I haven't been on the forum for a bit.
I need to renew March 30th, and need a Drive Clean two days before the program expires (not on the Vette as it doesn't require one anymore) , so I called MTO. What I was told, seems totally stupid, but here goes. I was told my car needs a Drive Clean (Period). Doesn't matter when I renew my sticker, be it April, May, or months later, the car MUST have a Drive Clean (Period). By not getting a Drive Clean, and delaying it, I run the risk that I won't find a place who can still perform one, and, as was told, MUST have one before they will renew my sticker, regardless when that might be. So, I intend to go to my local MTO office, where they know me, and get a second opinion.
If I need one, then my only option will be to pull the car from storage on a nice March day, and have it done somewhere.

It does not compute however.....

I was a little bit worried that I might still need to get my wife's BMW E tested in order to get her sticker, as her birthday is April 10th and I typically renew the sticker online about a month before. But I just renewed her sticker tonight and it allowed me to do it without the Drive Clean test. I just thought I'd post this in case anyone else is in a similar situation and is wondering if they can renew their sticker before April 1st without the test.

I finally got an answer yesterday from MTO, via direct message over twitter, vs mixed messages from their call centre and my local MTO. I'm now told, that even though my sticker expires March 30, and the Drive Clean program ends two days later, as long as I renew after April 1st, no drive clean is required. All that's needed, as the sticker is 'expired' ,is that I can't do it on line and must go to a Service Ontario office.
They claim this new process is being pushed out to their call centres's and MTO offices over the next couple of weeks, so some centre's may still be following the old rules.
All this said, I'm still not deleting the detail I received until I have sticker in hand :-)

Just went to the MTO website and the search for Drive Clean testing locations near me and it lit up like a christmas tree, so plenty of drive clean testing centres around. will check again after April 1.

I called the Drive Clean number today 1(888) 758-2999. My sticker expired in February.
I was told by the very nice lady that many MTO offices are giving out wrong information.
She told me that “light Vehicle” testing ends on March 31 2019. So if I wait until April 1st,
I can re-new my sticker without requiring a Drive Clean test. she also gave me a reference number.

I get your question if you are not ready to take your vette out of hibernation yet just to get it e-tested. However, if you are just trying to avoid the fee for the e-test, there isn't one anymore. The fee was dropped back in 2017.

For me, I know there is no fee. It's just a hassle factor to get the car out of storage for one day to have the test done, then put it back in storage for another few weeks. I'm glad Mark and I are getting the same answer.

We’re not worried about the cost of the test. As you stated, it’s been free for a couple of years.
The problem is getting it to a testing location with an expired sticker. It’s not worth the bother of getting a temp sticker or taking it out of storage.
If I wait one more week, I can get a sticker without the DC test.

funny how a few of you claim 'free' over the last few years for the drive-clean, sure but the sticker prices keep soaring. lol

It seems like they went up like 50% in the past 5 or 6 years. But I believe the current government has eliminated the previously planned future increases that would have made it even worse.

Got my sticker today.
Update. I went to the Service Ontario office today at lunch time. “Bad timing on my part” the place was packed.
As mentioned before, my sticker expired in February & the renewal form said I needed a Drive Clean Test. As of Today the Drive Clean program is “Dead” for cars and light trucks.
I was able to renew my sticker with no DC Test. $120.00 for 1 year or $240.00 for 2 years. Let the Driving Season begin!!
