Paste is a better value - it's not uncommon to get 20+ applications out of an 11-12 ounce can of paste wax versus 3-4 applications for the average user out of a 16 ounce bottle.
So, while you'll spend a little bit more for the paste, it's cost per use is much lower.
I would say that "typically" paste wax offers more carnuba or protectants that the liquid counterpart, as the liquid version needs quite a bid more solvents to breakdown and keep in form. Purely guesswork though based on most paste products offering "more carnuba" on packaging. (like Mothers)

Man you have got to be kidding, I get a minimum of 12 to 15 applications out of a 16 ounce bottle of liquid anything. If you are only getting 3 to 4 apps out of 16 ounce bottle something is wrong somewhere.
